While our 20-something lazy bones cannot even wash and dry our own clothes, leave alone manage a healthy work-life balance, a 73-year-old beautiful grandma is giving âfitness goalsâ a new meaning.
View this post on Instagram3 years ago I began this long, slow journey and now I realize that there really isnât any end to it.
Each day I move in a direction based on my choices.
Each month is a new milestone.
Each year I seem to have changed so completely I think I canât change any more and yet I do.ðð
At this point, I truly realize that we are limitless.
At any moment we can make a decision to change.
No matter how difficult or challenging life is, we must remain steadfast in our aim and keep inching forward.
When I got started I never imagined Iâd be where I am today. I just wanted to get my health back and get off my medication.
Each door we step through leads to another door and then another.
I hope you all keep choosing to grow! To learn to love yourself, take the best care of yourself, and dare to dream and love with your whole heart again.ðð

(@trainwithjoan)After struggling with weight and a slow lifestyle for a very long time, Joan MacDonald began her journey on being fit after being inspired by her own daughter and son-in-law who decided to train her and help her transform herself. She got herself an iPhone, learnt how to track her calories and follow a diet meant for her goals. The result is obviously outstanding.
View this post on Instagram My tips to help you get started: 1. Really take stock of the things you want to change . Be clear in your mind what habits you want to change. Write those things down. Make a clear list! 2. Write out another list of the new habits you want to master to create a new you. Be clear. Be simple. Changing your life isnât as complicated as we make it out to be. To make big changes we need to create new daily habits. Thatâs it. End of story. Focus on the habits. ð¥°ð¥° 3. Get a nutrition plan and an exercise plan that you can follow for the long term. Be careful of fad diets that eliminate major food groups. You want this to be sustainable. Anyone can lose 10 lbs for a couple of months. You will want to be one of the few that transform for the long haul. Thatâs where the real benefits start racking up! ðð 4. Have an attitude of gratitude for the small successes. The more you can focus on what youâre doing right, the more confident and energized youâll be to keep on going. You canât beat yourself over the finish line folks. Youâve got to learn to truly love yourself unconditionally and keep on encouraging ourselves to grow in the right direction. ï¸ . Happy Friday! Sounds out, I got my guns out! View this post on Instagram Donât worry about how far you have to go or even how many times youâve tried before to make change happen. Just focus on your day-to-day efforts, be joyful about the small changes youâre making, and build up faith in yourself with each successful day. Itâs not about how fast you progress, itâs about your consistency and your love of the process. Love the habits of a healthy lifestyle. Love your effort. Love yourself. .. She enjoys a huge social media fan following and on days you feel you are too old to hit the track or being an amateur at the gym scares you, try scrolling through her videos once.
View this post on Instagram The deadlift! Now this is a wonderful exercise for building bone strength as well as muscle strength, but itâs often done incorrectly. I know, many people my age would normally shy away from an exercise like this. And many average trainers wouldnât know how to teach an exercise like this, so do be cautious. Iâm extremely lucky that Iâve had some great coaching by people who really believe in my potential. I canât say this enough: surround yourself with knowledgeable people who see the best in you and can get the best out of you! Just because youâre older doesnât mean you canât still be pushed and still learn and grow. Am I right? ð¼ð¼ð¼ . I am using bumper plates, and only lifting 65 lbs total. I was demonstrating this lift for an interview with @cbctoronto . I would never in a million years have imagined Iâd be on the news demonstrating how I exercise. If my journey can inspire some changes in how trainers approach training the older population, then Iâm all the happier for it. We really can keep growing and improving at any age! . View this post on Instagram How many do you think I can do by the end of the year? . Okay the big trick here is us using a bench so Iâm starting from the bottom position but not hanging. This has helped me a lot because I have a trick shoulder that gives me a lot of pain. Two years ago I started with the machine. Then I moved on to heavy rubber assistance bands. And finally at my daughters gym I worked my way up to unassisted chin ups. They are now one of my favorite exercises and I have a real sense of accomplishment from them. Iâd love to know what your favorite exercise in the gym is, and if you do chin ups, how many can you do? Would you like an instructional video on how to do these? I think I could do that for you! ð¼ð¼ . #progressnotperfection #olderwomen #silverhair #oldermodel #fitover70 #chinups #inspo #fitspo #stronggirls #trainwithjoan

It is proven that with age our metabolism slows down, so one can imagine the intense hard work she must have put in for this insane transformation. So quit being a bummer and get those workout clothes to run on a treadmill or lift some weights to lift your spirits. Damn Joan Macdonald is so gorgeously ripped, weâd name a burger named McFit after her!
