People Want Doordarshan To Bring Back Mahabharata & Ramayana For Remaining Days Of Lockdown

One of the fondest memories I have from my childhood back in the 90s was watching Mahabharata and Ramayana, and I wouldnât mind watching them all over again.

Back in those days, people used to leave everything they were doing and plonk down in front of their TV boxes just to watch the show. Even the roads would be near empty on Sunday mornings, as everyone would be busy watching the mythological series from their homes.

Well, roads are empty again right now for completely different reasons though, as we all are restricted to staying indoors owning to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day national lockdown on Tuesday night and before that, most people were practising self-isolation for a good two weeks already.

As we are running out of options for content to consume, it seems that watching the good old Mahabharata and Ramayana on TV again would be a welcome distraction from all the chaos out there right now.

Taking to Twitter, Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar said that the team is trying to work out the logistics on bringing these iconic shows back.

Hopeful of sharing schedule by end of day today. Technical and Logistics issues being worked out. https://t.co/codicTLBdC

After the news of the shows possibly getting aired again started to go viral, people on Twitter have become more vociferous in their demand for Doordarshan to air the shows as soon as possible.

Thank you @DDNational for thinking on repeat telecasting of #Ramayan and #Mahabharat @narendramodi @prasarbharati @rsprasad

& #Ramayan we don't our India to go 21 years back but we can go In our Chilhoods to relive those epics. #nostalgia

â Sudarshan Lokhande (@hindustanimanus) March 26, 2020

Kindly make it possible as early as because this is the only way to bond the people at home kindly make it three program with #Ramayan #Mahabharat #Krishna by Ramanand Sagar and B. R chopra

â HITESH GUPTA (@hitu54422) March 26, 2020

As the nation wide lockdown period of 21 days , may be increased depending on situations, its a right time to telecast the old memories of the TV series including #RAMAYAN #MAHABHARAT etc

â DILIP (@dnsutaria) March 25, 2020

In his speech, PM Modi had also used the reference of Mahabharata. He said, that winning the war against Coronavirus will take 21 days as opposed to the 18 days taken to win the epic war of Mahabharata.

PM Modi, in fact, also added that as in Mahabharata, it was Lord Krishna who guided Pandavas to the victory, our nation has 1.3 billion citizens who can lead the country to a massive win.

Here is hoping we actually get to see both of these beloved shows on TV soon, because we sure are in desperate need for some nostalgia right now.
