Why A 92 YO Vietnamese Man With 5 Metre Long Hair Has Not Cut His Hair In 80 Years

Amid Coronavirus we have seen many men across the world grow their hair but this man from Vietnam’s Nguyen Van Chien is not comparable to anyone as he hasn’t gotten his hair trimmed in the last eighty years. Yes, you read that right!

The 92-year-old who lives in the Southern Mekong Delta Region has 5 meter long dreadlocks and he believes that one should leave his body untouched and respect whatever they were born with.

He said, “I believe if I cut my hair I will die. I dare not to change anything, not even combing it. I only nurture it, cover it in a scarf to keep it dry and clean and look nice.”

Chein worships nine powers and seven gods and believes that his purpose of life was to grow his hair this long and he bundles up his hair and ties them in an orange turban.

He last trimmed his hair when he was in 3rd grade and never cut them after that and also decided to never cut, comb or wash it again.

He also added, “I remembered my hair was black, thick, and strong. I combed it, untangled it to make it smooth. But when I heard the calling from the divine power, I knew immediately that I was chosen. I touched my hair and overnight it has become really hard. It has attached to my head and became a thing of its own.”

Chien needs a person who manages his giant locks. He also expressed how he follows a near-obsolete faith known as ‘Dua’ . He only survives on coconuts to retain his vitality and Dua has been banned in Vietnam.
