India Has Its Own App Store Now & People On Twitter Are Calling It An 'Atmanirbhar Initiative'

Guys, did you know India now has its own app store? Well, for the uninitiated, India now has its own App store and the Indus OS company has developed it.

It is an indigenous app store called the Indus App Bazaar which recently crossed the 100 million users milestone.

Indus OS is one of those rare home-grown brands which started its journey in 2013, launched its operating system with Micromax in 2015, and in 2018, pivoted to being an app store, aka Indus App Bazaar - India’s answer to the Play Store and App Store.

What’s incredible is that the app store, which is designed to help users discover new and trending apps in the language of their choice, with more than 400,000 apps in English and 12 Indian languages, has reported three and a half times app installs since January.

Also, it doesn’t require any email sign in to download the apps.

The Economic Times reported that the usage of apps in Indian languages on the platform has increased 2.2 times during the pandemic, with Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati Tamil, and Bengali being the most popular, according to the company.

Why Is #IndiaKaAppStore Trending?

On Wednesday, people on Twitter started trending #IndiaKaAppStore as many of them believed that this initiative toes the line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat with some even suggesting that this should be named as the “Bharat App store”.

Here’s how people on Twitter reacted:

It's time to break down the monopoly of big players and be vocal for local app stores. 30% taxes by Google play store is harsh on developers. Support Indus App Bazaar #IndiaKaAppStore

So happy about #IndiaKaAppStore which is available in English and 12 Indian
Languages. This is also beneficial to the developers who will get $25000 AWS
credits for uploading their apps for the first time. Love App Bazaar.
