Steve Jobs had two stints at Apple, where he returned to the Cupertino giant in 1996 when the company bought NeXT and the NeXTSTEP OS.  NeXTSTEP OS later became the operating systems for Mac OS and Jobs was responsible for streamlining the Mac OS X lineup which was very messy at the time. Jobs later introduced other products such as the highly successful iPod and the company’s most successful product yet; the iPhone.

After Steve was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he asked Tim Cook to run the company as acting CEO in his absence. The position became permanent after Jobs resigned as CEO in 2011. When Jobs officially resigned as CEO, he told the Apple board that “I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.”

Steve Jobs soon passed on six weeks after he resigned as CEO of Apple in 2011. Apple has created a ‘Remember Steve’ microsite which is still live today for people to visit and leave tributes. Over a million people have left personal tributes for Steve Jobs on the website and you can also do so by visiting here
