At a time, when the cricket fraternity was just coming to terms with the sudden demise of Dean Jones, another shocking news appears to have rattled everyone associated with the gentleman's game. The younger brother of former South African cricketer Vernon Philander has been shot dead a few metres away from his home in Ravensmead, Cape Town.

According to media reports, Philander's brother Tyrone was delivering a trolley with water to a neighbour when he was shot. As per an African News Agency (ANA) reporter, Tyrone's mother Bonita, accompanied by a family member, watched in horror as her 32-year-old son's body lay in the street. The reports further suggest that the assailants are still at large.
