Exciting, breath-taking, nerve-wracking, entertaining or spectacular? We are literally running out of words to describe the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite not being played in front of a vociferous Indian crowd, IPL 2020, on the back of thrilling contests so far, is keeping everyone entertained and has undeniably proved to be one of its best installments over the years.

From great batting performances, spectacular fielding efforts, majestic bowling spells to nail-biting finishes, the ongoing tournament has done more than enough to satiate the thirst of cricket-crazy fans across the globe. It is the surprise element of this year's tournament that has really captured the imagination of fans.

Just when you think you've seen it all, IPL 2020 has successfully managed to surprise everyone. Last Sunday was a testimony to IPL 2020's ability to sweep its fans off their feet. On a day of dramatic run-chases, IPL 2020 saw, not one, not two, but three staggering 'Super Over' contests.

It all began with Kolkata Knight Riders' triumph over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) who, despite tying the score, couldn't overcome the brilliance of Lockie Ferguson in the 'Super Over'. While cricket fans were probably hungover with a tense finish to the game, IPL 2020 threw another cracker of a contest that left everyone speechless in the end.

The second match of the day saw Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) matching the total of 176 runs posted by Mumbai Indians (MI). The game, quite understandably, went into the 'Super Over' decider where both the teams once again saw their scores getting tied. A second 'Super Over' contest, third of the day, came to fore and eventually the likes of Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal got Punjab over the line.

While the thrilling win undoubtedly proved critical for Punjab who are struggling to stay alive in the competition, the turn of events on Sunday left every fan elated and gasping for their breath. The feeling was quite mutual amongst former cricketers and pundits including the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag.

Yuvraj, who was earlier part of the Mumbai Indians franchise, compared the second match of the day with the 2019 World Cup final before deeming the former better. "Was the World Cup final of 2019 a better game or #mivskxip ? Unbelievable scenes today #ipl is here to stay  Amazing effort by both teams @Jaspritbumrah93 game changer for @mipaltan and @klrahul11 for Punjab great finish world boss @henrygayle @mayankcricket #IPL2020 #supersunday," Yuvi tweeted.

Din Ek, Super over Do.
Bahut Nainsaafi hai.

The best thing of 2020, the Indian Premier League for a reason. #MIvsKXIP

On the other hand, Sehwag also shared his excitement surrounding the two cracking games before eventually calling IPL 2020 the best thing to happen in the year 2020. "Din Ek, Super over Do. Bahut Nainsaafi hai. The best thing of 2020, the Indian Premier League for a reason. #MIvsKXIP," Sehwag tweeted.

Well, if this is the state of affairs in the league stage, we can't even begin to think what is going to happen in the Playoffs. And, that's the charm of IPL. The advent of T20 cricket might have given birth to numerous leagues across the globe, but there is a reason why IPL is arguably the biggest and most popular of them all. And, the ongoing season is a befitting testimony to that claim.
