Amitabh Bachchan may be a crowning glory for the Indian film industry, but there is no denying that his late father and celebrated poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan had been no less than a precious gem for the country and its literati.

Perhaps that is why Amitabh Bachchan seemed beyond proud and ecstatic when he shared on his social media accounts that the city of Wroclaw in Poland has decided to name a city square after his late father.

Sharing how the news brought great pride to the Bachchan family and Indians at large, BigB wrote in the post, “The City Council of the City of Wroclaw, Poland has decided to name a Square after my Father ..there could not have been a more apt blessing on Dushhera than this .. a moment of extreme pride for the family , for the Indian community in Wroclaw .. and India ..JAI HIND”

It is surely a memorable moment for the country because this gesture only proves that the words and works of Harivansh Rai Bachchan did not only leave an indelible mark on Indian poetry lovers, but has created palpable waves globally.

To be honoured by such a warm gesture by the Polish citizens 17 years after his passing only proves that poetry isn’t merely a group of words scribbled on a piece of paper, but rather an emotion that can touch every heart willing to understand it.

However, many of them also asked Amitabh Bachchan to share the connection between the city and his late father, and why the honour is being bestowed upon him after so many years since his passing.
