Who Is Gulnaz And Why Are People Seeking Justice For Her

We live in a country where women are still forced to bow down in front of hypocritical stereotypes and when they do not, it’s taken for granted that they should be punished. In a heinous crime, a 20-year-old girl identified as Gulnaz Khatoon was burnt alive by sprinkling kerosene over her body in Rasoolpur village in Bihar.

Refusing to marry, and opposing molestation, set fire by Satish Kumar and Chandan Kumar a body of a badly burned girl was recovered from the well

And the reason is even more baffling as the victim was killed because she refused to marry one of the accused, Satish Rai. In a video statement to the police, Gulnaz said, “I was going to throw garbage around 6 pm when Satish Rai, son of Vinay Rai poured kerosene over me and set me ablaze with a match stick”.

Satish was harassing her and pressurizing her for marriage. She even requested him to not pester her as marriage was out of question. She is reported to have stated reasons of different religious backgrounds as the main hindrance in them getting married.

It has been more than two weeks since the incident took place, and the accused haven’t been tracked or punished yet.

According to the victim's mother Maimoona Khatoon, the accused, on October 29 had threatened to kill her and did so the very next day.

-@ProfNoorul #JusticeForGulnaz pic.twitter.com/oSnPBeY0tp

People are angry that mainstream media is completely silent about it and it has exposed the functioning of the government in Bihar. People are out on the streets seeking justice for her and are requesting the government to take the safety of women as their top priority.

Safety of females should be on the top of the list in politician's diary. Just respect female and give justice at any cost.

Why no action was taken for 17 days, why such goons are staying independent in the society, is there no cost to the lives of sissy daughters, why the government and police are silent about Gulnaz ..?@SurajKrBauddh#JusticeForGulnaz#नीतीश_कुमार_शर्म_करो pic.twitter.com/NSkCWjxCmA

It’s heartbreaking to see that the government hasn’t taken any action in 17 days. Gulnaz passed away on October 30th and her family has refused to do the last right as they want justice for her.
