Earlier in the week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declined permission to the legendary Yuvraj Singh to come out of retirement and play domestic cricket in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Calling it a career back in 2019, Singh reconsidered playing for his state upon the request of the Punjab Cricket Association. He even wrote a letter to the Indian cricket board to allow him to take back his decision of retiring.

Yuvraj Singh fails to get clearance for return to Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

However the BCCI declined this request for reasons unknown.

Considering the ambiguity of the situation, it was expected that Yuvraj’s father, Yograj Singh would make a public response to the board’s decision and that’s exactly what happened.

“I am not sure of the exact reason (for BCCI denying NOC to Yuvraj), as I’m yet to speak with Yuvi on the same. But it’s entirely the choice of the BCCI,” said Yograj Singh.

“However, I feel that ample time should be given to retired players to make a comeback and play with the young boys, who have a lot to learn from them,” Yuvraj’s father said while speaking to Asianet Newsable.

Acknowledging the contributions of the cricketing body that went into the success Yuvraj had enjoyed during his time as an international player, Yograj felt that it was important to return the favour to the BCCI.

“Meanwhile, besides playing, giving back to the boys and Indian cricket is very important. If he can produce four-five players for the country in the coming years, it would be great. I will be very, very happy. He continues to practice even today. I think it’s all about how you feel. I believe it is very important to give back. If you are doing so, I think that is the greatest thing you are doing rather than playing cricket,” he added.
