4 Most Memorable Victory Laps Taken By Indian Cricket Team With The National Flag Flying High

The Indian cricket team is one of the biggest entities our country is extremely proud of. Over the years, the Men in Blue have not only showed that they were among the best in international cricket but have also achieved some unbelievable milestones which have made the nation and their people proud.

On the 72nd Republic Day, here are the four most memorable victory laps taken by the Indian cricket team:

World Cup (2011) - Wankhede

The moment which the legendary Sachin Tendulkar calls “the most beautiful moment of his cricketing life” came at the end of India’s 2011 World Cup campaign at home. Ending a 28-year drought, the Men in Blue were once again world champions and immortalised a fully loaded squad led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The ‘Master Blaster’ was throned on the shoulders of his teammates, with the tricolour in his hands and ultimate happiness on his face.

India Wins Border-Gavaskar Trophy (2020-21) - Brisbane

A broken Team India not only won the Test series 2-1 but also managed to defeat the Australians at the ‘Gabba Fortress’, the Brisbane Cricket Ground where the hosts had not lost a single Test match in the last 33 years. The greatest scenes could be seen when skipper Ajinkya Rahane handed over the flag to Rishabh Pant, the man who turned the series around with one of the greatest red-ball innings of all time.

India Wins T20 World Cup (2007) - Johannesburg

At the end of a nail-biting final over against Pakistan to decide the first ever T20 World Cup champion, Team India, once again led by MS Dhoni, had the fans erupt in deafening ecstasy when they began their victory lap at the Wanderers.

When a Virat Kohli-led squad beat Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground after winning at the Adelaide Oval back in 2018-19, they secured the very first Test series win against the Aussies on their home turf in the history of Indian cricket. Kohli and the rest of the roster took rounds around what used to be the biggest cricket stadium in the world at the time.
