Video Shows Guard Grabbing Pitch Invader After He Meets Virat Kohli & Jogs Back To Boundary

Day 1 of the third Test match between India and England at the freshly inaugurated Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was eventful, to say the least.

During the third and final session of the day, a pitch invader dodged past the security protocol and bee-lined towards Indian skipper Virat Kohli who was on strike and was caught completely off-guard by the fan running towards his direction.

The expert cameramen present at the venue were already briefed about such situations and have been told to do their best to keep the pitch-invaders out of the frame, to avoid highlighting such behaviour on international television.

So, those who were watching the match online or on their TVs would have seen Kohli flinch and take a couple of steps back while discounting a smirk, eventually.

However, the spectators present at the magnificent Motera stadium were too quick to get their smartphones on and capture the incident.

According to the video shared by Twitter user @rahulsbk13, the fan can be seen running freely around the stadium with not a single security guard on the ground chasing after him.

The kind of ease with which he was able to simply jump across the boundary ropes, rush past the English fielders and approach Kohli in the middle of the ground shows how lapse the security really is at the Ahmedabad stadium right now.

Considering all the strictness that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had put in place for the match at Motera, keeping in mind the potential risks of players contracting the coronavirus, this one incident establishes the fact that there is still a lot to be done to make international cricket “covid-proof” and fans agree:

The invader was caught hold of after he met his idol, made him feel extremely comfortable and jogged back towards the area where he came from. He was eventually escorted out of the premises as the match continued.

By the end of the session, the Indian captain ended up getting bowled out by England spinner Jack Leach after scoring 27 runs off 58 deliveries and building a decent 64-run partnership with opening batsman Rohit Sharma.

At the end of Day 1, India had scored 99 runs at the loss of three wickets and trailed by just 13 runs.
