Several Android Apps Are Crashing For Many Users And Here’s How To Fix The Problem

Some Android apps are crashing for some users at the moment, especially for Samsung users. However, Google is already working on a fix. The problem is related to a system component called the Android System Webview which lets Android apps display web content. However, the component is facing some sort of issue right now which is causing apps like Gmail to crash.

“We are aware of an issue with WebView causing some apps on Android to crash for some users,” Google said in a statement. “We are currently working to fully validate the scope and a fix is in progress.”

There is a way to fix the problem at the moment and it has to do with removing the latest update to WebView. The fix has also been recommended by Samsung’s official Twitter support. Here’s how you can fix the problem if you are facing frequent app crashes right now.

Go to settings > apps > tap the three dots in the top right corner > show system apps > search for Android System WebView > select Uninstall updates.

You can always update the WebView via the PlayStore once Google fixes the problem. Google says that the problem pertains mainly to Gmail and other apps on Android and recommends using the desktop interface until a fix is issued.

However, users on Reddit have pointed out that uninstalling the update from the settings menu will only fix some apps. Instead, it was suggested that users should uninstall app updates from the Google Play Store for all apps on your for it to work properly. For this method, users will have to look for Android System WebView on the Play Store and uninstall the app. This will remove the latest app updates and have them running again.
