We all know that age is just a number and people are proving that by achieving extraordinary things at an age when no one expects them to. Sankaranarayanan Sankarapandian, a retired teacher at the age of 67 has cracked the challenging Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examination.
Yes, you read that right!

This 67-year-old guy has 3 grandkids and he was a teacher at Hindu College in Tamil Nadu. This year he became the oldest candidate to pass GATE.
He expressed that he faced a lot of challenges to clear this examination. According to News18, he was guided to wait in the waiting area where the parents were supposed to wait for their kids when he entered the exam hall.
He said, “No one thought I was a candidate. The staff at the exam center thought that I was accompanying a student but no one thought that I am the candidate.”
Sankarapandian chose two out of 27 papers and cleared both exams with high scores of 338 in mathematics and 482 in computer science.

He had completed his MSc in 1976 from AVVM Sri Pishpham College in Thanjavur. Now that he has cleared GATE, Sankarapandian now aims at pursuing research in the field of augmented reality (AR) and specifically focus on the problem occlusion.
The GATE examination has no age restrictions on candidates and it is a qualifying exam for people who are seeking admissions to masters and Ph.D. programs in science and technology and placements in public sector undertakings.

The oldest man to register for the exam was an 88-year-old man. However, he didn’t appear for the exam.
