While the mutated strain of the now "airborne" virus has affected everyone from the elderly to the children, leading to hospitalizations of so many across the country, an 82-year-old woman has succeeded in beating the virus all on her own.

According to reports, Vidya Devi, a resident of Alinagar in Gorakhpur has managed to bring up her oxygen levels without the need for an oxygen cylinder, just by lying in the prone position.

The Proning technique, which involves lying on the chest and stomach, has been advised by experts to patients to help the body get air into all areas of the lungs.

Vidya Srivastava had tested positive for the virus earlier this month.

While her elder son Vijay continued to monitor her health at home, one day her oxygen levels dipped suddenly.

"Her elder son, Hari Mohan Srivastava, said, โ€œMy mother tested positive and we kept her in-home isolation. One day her oxygen levels dipped to 79 and everyone in the family was worried." said Hari Mohan.

He said that despite being scared and without an oxygen cylinder, his family made her lie down in the prone position after which she got better.

"We did not give up and made her lie down in the prone position with her stomach down towards the bed. Gradually, the situation improved and the oxygen level rose to 94 within four days,โ€ said Hari Mohan.

It did not take long for the entire family to be infected with the virus, however, according to Hari Mohan, it was the positive frame of mind of everyone in the family that made Vidya and everyone else recover from the virus.

After hearing the news of Vidya and her family's recovery, social media users shared their take on the happy news on Twitter.

Tooooo Many people are running after hospital beds

Not only is quality of care at a hospital very poor in these crisis times.. but that initial stress & hassle of finding beds itself lowers immune response

People must learn the basics of tackling COVID infection at home
