Todd Phillips’ Joker has to be one of the best movies to have been made in the last decade.
Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of the Clown Prince Of Gotham will go down as one of the most iconic portrayals of the Joker, second only Heath Ledger’s.

Now, a report by The Hollywood Reporter says that a sequel to Joker is all but confirmed.

Right after the Joker was released in 2019, one of the producers of the movie put out a statement that a sequel was certainly going to be made, only to then retract the statement without giving any explanation.

Now, according to several reports, Todd Phillips, who gave us one of the most unique, and relatable Jokers ever, has come on board to write the story and the script for the sequel.

In an interview with Los Angeles Times, both Todd Phillips & Joaquin Phoenix have said that they would be more than happy to work on the sequel.
Phillips said that the next Joker film, if he was the one helming it, couldn’t be just about Joker’s criminal activities, and his life as the harbinger of chaos. It had to be on the similar thematic lines as the original film, and in the light that showed how the modern society was responsible for Joker.

Phoenix, in a separate interview, said that they had started discussing the possibility of a sequel long before the original film was released in 2019, and long before its commercial success and the accolades it won.
This happened because both, Phillips and Phoenix believed that there’s so much more to explore.

Phoenix also added that he wouldn’t do another movie on Joker, just because the first one was successful, as the sequel has to have its own substance.
Given Phillips’ calibre as a director, and Phoenix’s excitement towards Joker, we can safely bet that Joaquin will reprise the role.
Meanwhile, fans can’t seem to keep their excitement in check. While a few of them agree that a sequel was not necessarily needed, they would still go out and watch the film, on the first day of its release.
