The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle announced to the world the birth of their second baby and first daughter, who they have gone on to name Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

Harry and Meghan, who officially stepped down from their roles as senior royals last year, in a press statement, welcomed the arrival of their second child.

"On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family," they said.

The baby girl, who was born at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California, has been named after Harry’s mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, and grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, whose family name is Lilibet.

"Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honour her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales” said the couple.

According to their press secretary, both Meghan and Lili have been doing well and are back at home, where the baby girl joins her older brother Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, who was born in 2019.

Lili's arrival to the world was announced to her Royal family sitting across the Atlantic in the UK, which was then welcomed through a statement from a Buckingham Palace Spokeswoman, who said:

“The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
