7 Celebs Who Got Banned In A Country For Strange Reasons

Travelling is a way of living for us and for our star gazing celebrities, it is a way of indulging in shenanigans, connecting with fans, and also making some money by visiting other countries for concerts or a movie shoot or just promotions. While Visa rejections and Visa delay issues are synonymous with simpleton people like us, there have been instances where a few countries have in fact banned a celebrity. Here are 7 celebrities who got banned for strange reasons:

1. Lady Gaga

One of the most controversial and successful singers of our times was once banned in Indonesia after her personal style of dressing up and provocative lyrics angered Muslim groups. She was also called a ‘devil’s child’ who would spread Satanic teaching.

2. Katy Perry

Back in 2017, the singer was supposed to perform in Shanghai but was unfortunately banned in China ‘indefinitely’ after she was spotted wearing a dress adorned with sunflowers at a concert in Taiwan in 2015. This gave rise to heavy criticism as in 2014, the sunflower was a symbol of protestors protesting against a trade agreement between China and Taiwan and hence the flower became synonymous with anti-China sentiments.

3. The Beatles

Now you’d wonder why a band full of talented musicians should be banned in a country. Well, back in 1966, on a tour in Phillipines, the band was banned by the first lady Imelda Marcos after the band declined an invitation to have breakfast at the Presidential Palace in Manila. In 1964 The Beatles were also banned in Israel due to the fear of influencing the youth in a ‘wrong way’.

5. Justin Bieber

The Peaches singer offended the Chinese and got banned for indulging in ‘bad behaviour’ according to them. Another reason which was contemplated for the ban was that in 2014, he shared pictures of him at Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo. The shrine is a mark of Japanese militarism in China.
