Wait, don’t throw those food items just yet! The fruits and food items you think are of no use, can actually make for natural and easy recipes for your skin and hair.

Regardless of how many times we are reminded of using natural ingredients for our skin and hair, we always think it’s too much trouble, which honestly it is. However, when these natural ingredients call for you to use them and make the most out of them, you should take that opportunity.

The foods that go bad or leftover food items which you would usually discard without a second thought can actually make for really effective and fuss-free skincare and haircare recipes. Since no one is really interested in whisking a natural recipe from fresh ingredients, you can do it as a last resort when things go bad, quite literally.

Here are 5 food items which can be used as home remedies even if they go bad or are not fit to consume:

1. Coffee grounds

While there are a million ways to reuse old and dry coffee grounds, for example, as a fertilizer or odour neutraliser, one of them is to exfoliate your skin and scalp. Coffee grounds can be used as a hair, face or body scrub by adding some natural oils or other ingredients to it.

2. Tea bags

Once you are done having your morning tea, what do you do with the tea bags? Throw them in the dustbin? That’s where they belong right? No. Next time, put them in the fridge and keep it on your tired eyes for 15 minutes to reduce puffiness and dark circles.

3. Overripe banana

You would be lying if you said you never had a fully ripe banana that turned bad sitting on your dining table for days. We have all been there. However, instead of tossing it into the trash, mash it and make a natural hair conditioning mask. Apply on hair and wash it off. Same can be done with an overripe avocado.

4. Spoilt milk

Dairy products once expired are of no use...for consumption. It is perfectly good to use on hair and face. You can use spoiled or expired dairy products like milk and curd for quick haircare or skincare masks. It is a lot better than simply letting those go to waste.

5. Fruit peels

Not everyone knows but peels are as good and useful for skin and hair as fruits themselves. Don’t eat them though. You can grind orange peel and add yogurt to make an acne-curing face mask or rub banana peel on your face to curb dryness.

So next time, you are about to discard a leftover or spoiled food item, maybe google its uses and put it to good use.
