Arvind Kejriwal was born on August 16, 1968, at Sivani in Haryana, about 150km from Delhi, to Gobind Ram Kejriwal and Gita Devi. He was a topper in all educational endeavours of his life and that’s why he was able to clear UPSC. In fact, he attempted IIT-JEE and cracked it in his first attempt.

He was probably leading a dream life of an engineer as he landed a job in Tata Steel after completing his graduation in mechanical engineering from the one of most esteemed institutes of technology in India. It was during his professional stint at Tata Steel he realized that he wanted to serve his nation and after clearing his UPSC examination, he joined Indian Revenue Services (IRS) in 1995.

As a part of the Indian political system, he realized how deep-rooted corruption is and while serving as an IRS officer, he founded Parivartan, a grass-root activism organization in New Delhi. It was after a few years that he decided to resign from the position of Joint Commissioner of Income Tax in 2006 and it was in 2010, he started taking steps that led him to become Delhi’s Chief Minister.

He was the main activist in Anna Hazare’s camp but due to ideological differences with the latter, he formed his own political party called Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) in 2012. And the rest is history.
