‘Overacting Ki Dukaan’: Furious With Umpiring Pollard Takes Protest To Next Level, Slammed

Kieron Pollard, one of the most sought-after T20 players in the world, has made headlines not just for making use of his powerful muscles and hitting big sixes but also for his unique style of protests.

From taping his mouth to taking guard at the edge of the pitch, we have seen the Mumbai Indians all-rounder protest against the umpire’s decisions in some or the other bizarre manner in the Indian Premier League

Recently, the West Indies all-rounder took his protest to the next level during a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match between defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) and St Lucia Kings.

Pollard, who leads TKR in the CPL, was at the non-striker's end in the penultimate over of the innings, with Tim Seifert facing Wahab Riaz.

With the batting team looking to up the ante, the St Lucia Kings fast bowler delivered a wide yorker which was way outside the wide line but the match official didn’t signal anything, leaving both the batters and the commentators bemused.

Here’s the video:

Annoyed with the decision, Siefert looked towards the umpire in an animated manner hoping he would change his decision while Pollard, who was standing close to the umpire, decided not to engage with him at all and started to move away. He kept on walking till he almost reached the edge of the 30-yard circle near the mid-wicket region.

Watching the star all-rounder protest in such a peaceful manner, the commentators burst out laughing as both of them agreed that the umpire was wrong in not calling it a wide.

Going by the rule books, no doubt the delivery should’ve been called wide since the batsman hadn’t moved before the ball was released. But unlike the commentators, the fans were divided in their opinions, not over the decision but the protest.

While some hailed him for entertaining them, others found it to be disrespectful towards the match official and chided him for over-reacting.

In T20 cricket where every run is crucial, there is no place for such mistakes. We have seen teams becoming champions and ending runners-up by just one run (sorry CSK fans).

Thankfully, for Pollard, this one run didn’t cost them much as his side won the match quite comfortably by 27 runs to register their second win of the season.
