Jasprit Bumrah took a break from cricket in March earlier this year and tied the knot with renowned sports presenter Sanjana Ganesan in a private ceremony in Goa. Before this year, not many people knew much about Bumrah’s relationship and were curious to know every little detail like how it started and what was their first impression of each other. 

Bumrah, who is currently spearheading India’s pace attack in England, sat down with Dinesh Karthik and spilled some beans about their relationship. Bumrah revealed that it all started during the 2019 ODI World Cup in England.

While things went smooth once they started talking to each other, the biggest problem was that no one wanted to initiate the conversation because both considered each other to be “really arrogant.”

“I had obviously seen her a lot of times but we had the same problem with each other. She thought I was really arrogant, I thought she was really arrogant so we never really spoke,” Bumrah told Karthik during a Sky Sports interview. 

Bumrah was still new to international cricket but made rapid progress, establishing himself as an important member of India’s pace attack. Sanjana had also gone to England to cover the event as a broadcaster and that is when things started to blossom. They first became friends and then developed mutual feelings for each other.

“I spoke to her for the first time during the 2019 World Cup when she was here covering the event. We became friends and started talking a lot. It’s been good, we have been married for five months now, so yeah very happy,” Bumrah added.

Bumrah feels lucky that he has a life partner who understands the game well and knows how difficult it can be for players when things are not going their way.

“She understands the sport, she understands what the player goes through, so whenever things don’t go well or go well, we have a lot of interesting conversations, that really helps me. And, obviously, playing cricket and travelling all the time, you’ve got your wife with you now, so, you really have to focus on other things as well,” said Bumrah, when asked what are the benefits of having a partner who understands the nitty-gritties of the game.
