Bollywood’s machinery of churning out romantic movies is solely responsible for why and how young people dream of happy endings, grand proposals and believe in fairytales. With a major paradigm shift in how the youth consumes cinema, movie makers have cashed in on showing more realistic characters who are a lot like an average Joe and even have the same problems in life. Talking about relationships hang ups, commitment phobia is a real thing and here are 5 characters that actually accurately depict how it feels like:
1. Akash In Dil Chahta HaiWhile this movie is known for the way it spells friendship goals, one of the main characteristics of the lead character Akash was his lack of faith in true love. He truly believes that he can never fall in love and flinging his way through life is his plan. He is the first one to mock his own best friends Sid and Sameer for falling in love and shamelessly even proclaims “aaj Pooja, kal koi ddoja” when Sameer expresses how he feels for the girl he met.
2. Aaliya In Break Ke BaadOne might relate commitment phobia with men but thankfully there are enough female characters who played the part well. Aaliya moves to Australia for better career prospects and even though the love of her life chases her across continents and tries to make her believe that they are end game, she chooses to break up after getting cold feet.
3. Gayatri in Shuddh Desi RomanceThis is another movie which showed the concept of live-in relationships. Gayatri doesn’t believe in being tied down in life and even runs away from her own wedding. She is happy living with a guy without being committed.
4. Jai In Love Aaj KalThe movie which showed that having a break up party is a ‘normal’ thing to do. Jai is clearly smitten with his girlfriend Meera but is also sure that he doesn’t want to work it out over a long distance relationship and would rather stay happy being single.
5. Raj In Bachna Ae HaseenoThis character not just breaks one heart but does it twice after ‘almost’ marrying his second girlfriend. Raj is the quintessential guy who wishes to enjoy all the perks of being in love but cannot take the responsibility of being committed to that human.

Neeraj Chopra made history by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020 with a throw of 87.58 meters in the javelin competition. He is the new poster boy of Indian sports after making history at the Tokyo Olympics. He has become the national hero and also the ‘new national crush’ for many of his female fans.
Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, who have been riding on the success of their recent movie Shershaah, were asked in an interview with Sports Yaari about Neeraj’s big win and how he has become everyone’s crush. Sidharth went on to say that he is the real 'Shershaah' who has made the country proud. When Kiara was asked about him being the national crush, she readily agreed and even compared him with Vikram Batra. She was also seen asking the director if there will be a biopic on the athlete.
Here’s the video:
People started bashing the actors for using the athlete for their promotions and also advised Neeraj to stay away from Bollywood. People are not at all happy with how the actors were interested in cashing in with his biopic.

We feel the people's criticism is a bit harsh since the actors were only admiring the feat Neeraj Chopra has achieved and how he's done the nation proud on an international level.
On a side note, speaking to MensXP, Sidharth had talked about the challenges he'd faced while playing Vikram Batra in Shershaah. He told us, “When you are playing a real-life character and especially someone who’s so heroic, respected by armed forces, there’s so much written about him and we have seen his interviews, there’s a pressure to portray him in the best possible way. There’s a pressure that I feel that I somewhere owe to the family, also it gives a right impression on the audience about his life, family, and his brother. All these things constantly play in your head and this is why I knew I had to put my best foot forward. It’s difficult to put someone’s entire life on the screen in just 2 hours. I hope people get inspired by his story because he gave all of it. Not just him, it’s an ode to all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives. It’s a big responsibility and I feel proud that I got to wear his uniform on the screen.”

While we are swamped with choices when it comes to picking up a good movie, oftentimes than not, a good movie with a marvellous script is lost in the sea of ‘masala’ films and blockbusters. However, some critically acclaimed films deserve a special time of their own and one needs to savour them well. Here are five bizarre movies which probably you haven’t watched and therefore must be added to your list:
1. The WarriorThis is going to be a visual treat for all Irrfan fans. Directed by British filmmaker Atish Kapadia, this movie follows a warrior from rural Rajasthan who is sent to massacre an entire village but things take a different turn for him. The movie won two BAFTA awards so please do watch it, in case you haven’t.
2. Red RoadThis psychological thriller movie follows a woman named Jackie who gets obsessed with a man whom she is observing on a surveillance camera, courtesy her job. When she decides to seduce him and get closer to him, the reason for her obsession gets clearer. This is also a BAFTA winner so its critically approved.
3. My Life As A CourgetteDon’t confuse this to be a children’s movie. This animated movie is laced with dark themes which tells you a lot about the reality of life and follows a young boy who is shifted to an orphanage after his mother passes away. It is a heart breaking coming-of-age movie which shouldn’t be missed.
4. Bad TasteThis will be a good watch for anyone who finds joy in sci-fi dealing with aliens. This one has aliens munching and snacking on humans for food and the script turns into a gory horror parody. Don’t watch while you eat, that is all.
5. The OrphanageThis Spanish gothic horror movie follows Laura, who harbours many happy memories of the orphanage she grew up in. She convinces her husband to buy the property, expressing the desire to convert it into a home for sick children. When her own adopted son goes missing, she realises probably the spirits are calling out to her to look for the boy. The movie has no cheap thrilling jump scares, so you will genuinely enjoy watching it.

After 10 months of musical journey and hours of riyaaz, Indian Idol 12 contestant Pawandeep Rajan has emerged as the winner of the singing reality show and has made his family proud. The singer was awarded a cheque of Rs 25 lakh and a Maruti Suzuki Swift car. The singer said that he plans to start a music school for kids in his village in Champawat, Uttarakhand with the prize money.
View this post on InstagramIn an exclusive interview with India Today, he said, “I got to learn a lot of things. I got a family on the show, and we are going to work together. I compose music, can do programming, and also sing. Winning Indian Idol is the first step. After this, the real journey starts. I have got a lot of love from the public. I have got this trophy as a responsibility that I have to take care of. This is our country's biggest title and I would like to take its name forward."
Interestingly, he wants to use a part of the prize money to start a music school in his village. “I would like to open a music school in my village for the kids there. So that the kids can learn music and bring recognition to the place,” he added.
View this post on InstagramHe was also asked about Indian Idol 12 contestants who have been trolled on the Internet in the past. Speaking about the same, Pawandeep added, “The bigger the platform, the greater are the obstacles. So, we have to bear it. We have received the love of the people, and they will continue to support us. And those whose hearts we could not win, we will try to win them as well.”
Apart from Pawandeep Rajan, the other contestants in the top six included Arunita Kanjilal, Mohd Danish, Sayli Kamble, Nihal Tauro and Shanmukha Priya.

Among the sea of faces we see in Bollywood films, few become memorable, and even fewer who experience some semblance of longevity in our minds.
The Indian film industry is cutthroat, replacing stars easily if they deem fit. As an actor, it could be the most debilitating feeling, especially when these experiences are punctuated by a series of flops, for you’re only identified with your failures.
So it definitely speaks volumes of actors who have been able to overcome their setbacks and make a comeback into the film world.
Here are 10 comeback kings and queens of bollywood who demand your respect:
1. Amitabh Bachchan The 78-year-old thespian has had his fair share of ups and downs in Bollywood. From the dizzying heights of the mid to late 70s with hits like Sholay, Don and Amar Akbar Anthony, he underwent a dry patch that lasted for almost two decades. It wasn’t until KBC and Mohabbatein that Big B had finally recovered from his difficult days. It might have taken him a while, but he finally managed to recover from his dog days.

2. Saif Ali KhanWhile the other three Khans had ended up creating their own niches, Saif was left to feed off of smaller, experimental roles that the supposedly bigger Khans weren’t willing to take up. In the 90s he experimented with romantic and action roles to mixed success. Then at the end of the millennium, he would star in Hum Saath Saath Hain, which would give him the much needed breather from repeated failures. He would soon have to make difficult choices as his career wouldn’t stabilize anytime soon. The 2000s gave him minimal success with Dil Chahta Hai and Kal Ho Na Ho, which allowed him to continue experimenting with other flops on the side. In the 2010s Saif became even more experimental with his choices, picking up Go Goa Gone, Kaalakandi and Kurbaan, roles that seriously tested him, while also making disastrous choices in the form of Humshakals and Happy Ending. But now, the Prince of Pataudi is one of the most bankable OTT stars with successful roles in Sacred Games and Tandav.

3. Anil KapoorA bonafide star of the 90s, Anil Kapoor was dominating the silver screen with super hits like Judai, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, Biwi No. 1 and Taal. His stars dimmed with the onset of the new millennium, when even iconic films like Nayak flopped. And for a while it seemed like he was on his way out of the industry. That’s when Anil Kapoor reinvented himself as a comedic actor, choosing to bank on big ticket laugh riots rather than gripping stories. No Entry, Welcome and Race being some of his more memorable films from recent years.

4. Ayushmaan Khurrana The talented actor made his debut with the uber fresh Vicky Donor in 2012. His next few films would be poorly chosen as he suffered from one flop after another, with Nautanki Saala, Bewakoofiyaan, Hawaizaada and Meri Pyaari Bindu flunking at the box office. He had his eyes on the prize though, he knew his fortunes would change soon. And change it did, with Ayushmann now considered one of the most bankable actors in Bollywood with hits like Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Andhadhun, Badhaai Ho and Article 15 under his belt.

5. Akshay Kumar Mr. Khiladi was the ubiquitous action star of the 90s, as the Khiladi series gave him widespread popularity. However, his fame waned after Dil Toh Pagal Hai, and it wouldn’t be until the Hera Pheri series that he would find hits in his catalogue again. What changed for him in the early 2000s was that he pivoted from being a serious action star, to being a comedic actor. A common trend followed by other actors of his time as well. The success of the Housefull series would soon establish him as a top-tier comedic actor in the country.

6. Sanjay Dutt The favourite bad boy of Bollywood, Sanjay Dutt introduced himself to the world with back to back hits in the early 90s. What followed afterwards was a series of semi hits at best, with Haseena Maan Jayegi being his only standout performance in the 90s. Around this time he became mired in controversy, his connections to the Bombay blasts as well as possession of arms threatened to derail his entire career. Somehow, he managed to deliver the widely appreciated Munnabhai MBBS, showcasing an affable side to the bad guy. His career best performance came right before he checked into jail, with PK garnering applause from everywhere. This guy’s comeback was on a different level.

7. Sridevi The late Sridevi ruled the roost from the 80s to the 90s, with hits like Julie, Mr. India and Majaal. She decided to focus on her personal life after her marriage to producer Boney Kapoor. However, in 2012, she made a memorable comeback with English Vinglish, seemingly out of the blue. The audience loved her in the film, and it’s going to be one of the most fondly remembered films of hers.

8. Madhuri Dixit The gorgeous and talented actress Madhuri Dixit ruled the hearts of many through the 90s, with films such as Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Dil To Pagal Hai. However, her marriage to her husband stalled her career, and she wasn’t able to quite revive it until Total Dhamaal in 2019.

9. KajolThe effervescent Kajol has enjoyed a fabled career amassing a series of blockbuster films under her belt. Baazigar, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Ishq, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Fanaa are some of the most iconic films she’s been a part of - an astounding dominance that lasted for over two decades, from the 90s till the late 2000s. With the onset of the 2010s her midas touch seemed to wane, with My Name Is Khan being the only hit in the first half of the decade. In 2015, she came back with Dilwale which received mostly positive reviews. And it wasn’t until Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior, in 2020 that she finally recovered her midas touch.

10. Shah Rukh KhanKing Khan wasn't always the undisputed ruler of Bollywood. He had to sustain a few bad years in his journey to the top too. The 90s set the cornerstones for adulation he would continue to receive throughout his career, some of his memorable movies being the iconic Darr, Karan Arjun, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil Toh Pagal Hai and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The early 2000s made things tougher for him as he was subjected to a series of flops in the form of Asoka, Hey! Ram, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and One 2 Ka 4, punctuated by super hits in the shape of Mohabbatein and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. What was strange during this time was that Shah Rukh Khan had seemed to have lost the undulated adoration that he enjoyed. And despite heartfelt performances in Swades and Paheli, the audience had seemed to tire of him. That’s until the latter half of the 2000s where he delivered back to back hits in the form of Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Don - The Chase Begins Again, Chak De India, Om Shanti Om and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. We won't deny that he’s been experiencing a lull of late, but write him off at your own risk.
