  1. Joe Root is considered to be one of the most deadly and technically sound batsmen in the longest format of the game there is in today’s era of international cricket. As a red-ball skipper for the England side, he has a sense of responsibility towards his country, his team and the millions of fans from all over the world. Such expectations that come with the job often restrict the person from casual banter or having fun with his teammates and friends on the field and may lead to the formation of a serious personality around the athlete. View this post on Instagram However, in a video recently shared by the official Twitter handle of England’s Barmy Army (the supporters of the English cricket team), Root can be seen doing something many would have never imagined him do - depants someone! In the hilarious footage, the batsman could be seen crouching up behind veteran pacer Stuart Broad, and pulling his pants down in one go. Quickly realising what was happening to him, Broad managed to protect his “reputation” but not before the entire episode was caught on camera. #TBT to @root66 pulling a fast one on @StuartBroad8 🤣 @englandcricket pic.twitter.com/UCHGne521i — England's Barmy Army (@TheBarmyArmy) May 6, 2021 Pulling his pants up again, Broad began to chase his captain all over the ground but to the surprise of many, was unable to catch him, despite being one of the fastest cricketers in the team as of now. Strange, a serious fast bowler couldn't get a middle order batsman #RootRunsFasterThanBroad — ISH 🇻 KHANNA🇮🇳®©™ (@REAL_IK16) May 6, 2021haha and i thought a fast bowler would catch a kid! — Ishani.J (@ishani_5517J) May 6, 2021Some character this Root https://t.co/LA2vaZL0yN — Sabarish ARR (@me_sabarish7) May 6, 2021I thought aisi bakchodi sirf hum Indians karte the. https://t.co/sa9JfXKPs0 — Tejan Shrivastava (@BeingTeJan) May 6, 2021The last time Root came to India, for a four-match Test series, he looked in dominating form as he struck a masterful 218 in the first innings of the very first match at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai before the pitch woes began to get the better of the entire English squad and India ended up winning the series 3-1. Root will next be seen in action during the two-match Test series between England and New Zealand scheduled to start from June 2, 2021, with the first clash at the Lords’ cricket ground, followed by the second one at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham. Virat Kohli and the Men in Blue will be touring England for a five-match Test series in August and September later in the year. View the full article
  2. While the India England Test series was of utmost importance for the Men in Blue and their hopes of making it to the finals of the World Test Championship, it has also proved to be a testament of Rohit Sharma’s excellence as a batsman in the longest format of the game. Following the conclusion of the third Test at the Narendra Modi stadium at Ahmedabad, the International Cricket Council released an updated list of top 10 international cricketers in the batsman, bowler and all-rounder category. HITMAN alaa re in top 10 in @ICC test rankings amazing jump from 14 to rank 8.. proud on u hitman @ImRo45 pic.twitter.com/gqEurxmhDp — 🇮🇳Yogesh Tanwar (TrUE 🇮🇳) (@yogi10war) February 28, 2021 The name which caught the attention of most of the Indian fans was that of Sharma, a celebrated veteran of white-ball cricket who is now well on his way to leaving an impact in the genre of Test cricket as well. Achieving his career-best ranking at the number eight spot, Sharma now is ahead of some of the biggest, more well known names of red-ball cricket including India’s very own Cheteshwar Pujara (Rank 10), vice captain Ajinkya Rahane (Rank 13) and wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant (Rank 14). Rohit Sharma jumps 6 spots to claim 8th rank in the ICC Test Rankings for batsmen. R Ashwin jumps 4 spots to claim 3rd rank in ICC Test Rankings for bowlers. Only behind Cummins & Wagner now. — ComeOn Cricket 🇮🇳 (@ComeOnCricket) February 28, 2021 Returning to the Top-10 in Test cricket for the first time since October 2019, Sharma has now become the third Indian batsman to be in the list with two ranks ahead of Pujara and three spots behind the Indian captain, Virat Kohli. Sharma’s ascension in Test cricket started once again when he was called on-board to fill the opener’s spot during the third match of the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia on foreign soil. And even though Sharma did fairly well in the four innings he played in the final two matches of the series (26, 52, 44, 7) in Sydney and Brisbane respectively, it was his aggressive gameplay and the way he got dismissed every single time in Australia that led to fans criticising the ‘Hitman’ for lacking patience. "You've just hit a Boundary a couple of Deliveries earlier, why would you play that shot? You're (Rohit Sharma) a senior player, there's no excuse,Absolutely no excuse for this shot. An unnecessary wicket, an unnecessary wicket, gifted away. Totally unnecessary." - Sunil Gavaskar — CricketMAN2 (@man4_cricket) January 16, 2021 "I like to put pressure on the bowler once I am in, that is my role in the team. The run-scoring has been slightly difficult so someone needs to hand up & put pressure on the bowlers. I just did not connect the ball I loved to, it was unfortunate," Sharma had told ANI following his dismissal in the Gabba Test. Guess what, turns out Sharma does know how to play Test cricket his way, while scoring boundaries in large volumes and protecting his wicket when needed. His aggressive style of play was put on display during the second Test of the India-England series at Chepauk, in the first innings of which, Sharma ended up smashing a powerful 161 on a pitch which was massively criticised by ‘cricket experts’ from all over the world for being “unplayable”. Sharma’s breakthrough in the top 10 has his fans grinning from ear to ear with a lot to say to those who criticised the batsman for not playing good Test cricket: HITMAN moves to 8th rank in Icc test ranking...! Rip for those who said rohit is not a test player @ImRo45 — lucifer (@Stan_Rohit45) February 28, 2021Abeey yaar yeh log kitna rote h . Rank 8 pe h tab itna ro rhe h. Rank 1 pe aagya toh yeh log flood laa denge rote rote . Rohit sharma giving some serious damage to haters . — ᴘʀᴀʏᴜ45 #mi #ict (@rohitianprayu45) February 28, 2021@ImRo45 moves to rank 8th in icc test player rankings... Wowwwwww..it's the highest among test openers People say he can't play test cricket..he can't open in test cricket..look he is so close to beat @imVkohli in rankings ..#RohitSharma #Hitman #INDvENG — DEBARGHA MANDAL (@debargha_mandal) February 28, 2021Once considered to be not suitable for playing red-ball cricket for the team, Rohit Sharma has proven once again that his skill-set isn’t only limited to playing swashbuckling, high-scoring innings in limited overs cricket but has expanded into the format which is considered to be the ultimate ‘test’ of a batsman’s abilities.
