  1. It’s no secret that Kangana Ranaut is a hardcore BJP supporter and she hasn’t shied away from accepting it in public. She is someone who has strong opinions about the topics of national interest. View this post on Instagram Now, she has spoken about the much-talked about incident wherein Prime Minister Narendra Modi's convoy was stopped by protesters in Punjab, forcing him to return. "The PM was stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes. This was a major lapse in the security of the PM," said the Union Home Ministry in a statement. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said there had been no security lapses on the part of his government. "We had asked them [Prime Minister's office] to discontinue the visit due to bad weather and protests. We had no information of [the] sudden change in route. There was no security lapse during the PM's visit," Mr Channi told the media on Wednesday. View this post on Instagram It’s a major security lapse and people are demanding for President’s rule in Punjab. Kangana took to her Instagram Stories to call the incident 'shameful'. She wrote, "What happened in Punjab is shameful, the Honourable Prime Minister is democratically elected leader/ representative/ voice of 1.4 billion people, an attack on him is an attack on every single Indian... it is an attack on our democracy itself, Punjab is becoming a hub for terrorist activities if we don't stop them now, nation will have to pay a big price #bharatstandswithmodiji." © Instagram A while back, Kangana also faced the heat of the protesters and her car was surrounded by farmers in Punjab's Kiratpur. The incident took place in Bunga Sahib, Kiratpur Sahib on Chandigarh-Una Highway. In a video shared by Kangana on her Instagram stories, she was seen saying that they were not letting her car move ahead. “They are calling themselves farmers. They are attacking me, abusing me and threatening to kill me…In this country, this kind of mob lynching is happening openly. If I would not be having security with me, what situation would be there, what would happen? The situation here is unbelievable,” she said. “There is so much police presence, still my car is not being allowed to go. Am I a politician? Do I run a party? what is this behaviour…Several people are doing politics in my name and today’s episode is the result of that,” she added. View this post on Instagram On the professional front, Kangana is currently working on her production venture, Tiku Weds Sheru. It stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Avneet Kaur in the lead roles. 2. It has been a couple of weeks since the Indian cricket team lost to New Zealand in their second match of the T20 World Cup and Virat Kohli had refused to make an appearance in front of the media following the defeat. Instead, the former Indian skipper in the T20I format had sent his key bowler Jasprit Bumrah to face the heat and was heavily criticised for not being present at the venue to answer the burning questions. Virat Kohli sending Bumrah for press conference #INDvsNZ pic.twitter.com/a32cexA4rN — Dilse FAN (@dilsefan1) November 1, 2021 A lot has happened since then. Kohli has resigned from his captaincy and has been rested by the selectors. Rohit Sharma has taken over as the new full-time skipper, and the Men in Blue have gained an unassailable 2-0 lead against the Black Caps in the ongoing T20I bilateral series in India. However, it remains a fact that Kohli has managed to garner some extreme haters during his time at the top and they seem to keep coming back with more criticism and taunts for the batter, even when he is out of action and trying to manage his workload. View this post on Instagram In one such incident lately, Kohli’s absence from the press conference was compared to the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual address to the country in which he withdrew the three farm laws and asked the protesting farmers to go home. PM Modi’s video was considered to be brave and courageous while depicting a strong sense of character on his part as opposed to Kohli, who was criticised for making someone else fall on the sword for his mistakes after the T20 World Cup upset. The only problem was that the Author and Speaker, Shefali Vaidya, who called out Kohli for his lack of courage, had no idea about which conference he had attended and which he did not. What strength of character must it take to say this? He could have chosen to issue a press release. He could have chosen to let the agriculture minister announce this, like @imVkohli sent Bumrah to face the press after the Pak debacle. But he did NOT! pic.twitter.com/1IttCnZpWF — Shefali Vaidya. (@ShefVaidya) November 19, 2021 It didn’t take long for Kohli’s supporters to assemble and call “BS” on the comparison. They also made the world realise that the cricketer was present there for the Press Conference after losing to Pakistan, which had a lot more gravitas to it as compared to the loss to New Zealand. A. Virat Kohli himself attended the PC after Pakistan game. B. Had he not attended it also, it wouldn't had mean that he sent someone else to throw them under the bus and avoid criticism. He's pretty much a player's captain. C. There wasn't even any need to bring Virat here. — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) November 19, 2021What the hell. Virat Kohli went to press conference after that Pakistan game and it was one of the best press of Virat in his career . Who are these people. — Kaushik (@_CricKaushik_) November 19, 2021Ye har topic ghum-fir ke Kohli pe kaise chala jata hai? You need to know that Virat went for the PC himself. — Aditya Saha (@Adityakrsaha) November 19, 2021Meanwhile Virat Kohli in that press conference which she mentioned pic.twitter.com/7ernGS7xU2 — Kaushik (@_CricKaushik_) November 19, 2021After being in the bio bubble for the England series, followed by the IPL and then T20 World Cup tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) allowed senior players of the team including Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja some time off the field and, rested them for the T20Is and the upcoming Test series against New Zealand. 3. A couple of months earlier, we got to witness the story of Harshad Mehta who committed one of the biggest banking frauds in India and Pratik Gandhi gave life to the character in the show directed by Hansal Mehta. Now, Abundantia Entertainment is planning a multi-season series on fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi. The production house has acquired the rights of journalist, Pavan C Lall’s book Flawed: The Rise and Fall of India's Diamond Mogul Nirav Modi. Modi is wanted in India for one of the biggest banking scams. He allegedly defrauded Punjab National Bank out of an estimated $2 billion. The book is based on personal encounters, incisive interviews, and meticulous research conducted by the journalist. It will be interesting to see how the web show will unfold the entire case and present it in front of the viewers. Talking about the series, Pavan C Lall said, “It is an extremely exciting opportunity, and I am thrilled to be a part of this book-to-screen adaptation journey. Capturing the sensibility of a book in a cinematic way is not a simple task but I have full faith in Abundantia Entertainment and believe that they will do complete justice to this endeavour and give Flawed the appropriate visual mounting. The book is my effort to bring to the audience the tale of a larger-than-life entrepreneur - his spectacular rise and equally dramatic fall which brought an entire industry to its knees.” While more details are awaited, we have a few names in mind who we think can play Nirav Modi on the big screen. Pankaj Tripathi View this post on Instagram We genuinely feel that Pankaj Tripathi is the right fit for the role as he can play Nirav Modi with utmost conviction. He is one of the few actors who can add shades of realism into his acting. He has proven time and again that he is a versatile actor. And we have no doubt over whether he'll be able to pull off the role of Nirav Modi. Manoj Bajpayee View this post on Instagram Manoj Bajpayee is never bogged down by the idea of playing the smallest of the characters in a film because he believes in making an impact and not the length of the role. In the industry where the idea of being a star has always been given importance, Manoj proved that talent can take you much furhter. We truly think he can play the part with perfection. Rajkummar Rao View this post on Instagram In his entire career span, Rajkummar Rao has truly stood out as a versatile actor. From being a boy next door in Stree to playing Subash Chandra Bose, Rajkummar has given praiseworthy performances that prove the fact he is the king of versatility. We think he too could be the perfect choice to play the role. Do you agree with us? Or do you have someone else in mind? Let us know in the comments section below. View the full article

Journey From Computer Engineer To An IAS Officer © Twitter RP Singh In the final, Suhas gave the two-time world champion a run for his money and clinched the opening game but the Frenchman used all his experience and made an incredible comeback to win the next two games and take home the gold medal. Suhas Yathiraj, has had a leg impairment since birth, but that didn’t stop him from excelling in any field -- be it studies or sports. He graduated from NIT Karnataka as a computer engineer, that too with a distinction and cracked the UPSC exam in 2007. He served as DM of Prayagraj, Agra, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Sonbhadra districts before being transferred to G.B. Nagar. Journey From Hobby To Paralympics © Reuters The 38-year-old IAS officer always loved playing badminton but never took keen interest and only played the sport as a hobby. However, things changed in 2016, when he was invited as a chief guest to inaugurate a local badminton competition and surprised everyone with his shots. That very year he won a gold medal in his very first professional competition Asian Championship in Beijing and he has only grown from strength to strength. Next year, he won two gold medals (men’s singles and doubles) in Badminton World Federation Turkish Open Para-Badminton Championships in Antalya and followed it up with a men’s singles silver at Turkish Open in 2018. © Reuters He won several silver and bronze medals in various BWF events in Ireland, China, Denmark, Thailand, Uganda, and Japan in 2018 and 2019. The colour of his medal finally changed at the Turkish Open in 2019. “I was a guest at the inauguration of the tournament and expressed a desire to participate. Until then it was a hobby for me as I had been playing badminton since childhood. I got a chance to play there and defeated state-level players,” Suhas had told reporters before leaving for Tokyo Paralympics, as quoted by Zee News. Balance Between Duty & Badminton Practice © Reuters He knew fulfilling his duties as a DM alongwith badminton practice was never going to be easy but he was ready to go the extra yard. He would finish his administrative duties by 10pm and spend the next two hours learning and fine-tuning his badminton skills for next six years. “I practice from 10pm for two hours after all the day’s work is over. I have been managing my game and administrative duties this way for around six years now,” he said. 5. Travelling abroad has become more complicated than ever thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Most countries now require travellers to be fully vaccinated and provide proof in the form of certificates or official documents. These documents are required to be shown at immigration whenever entering a foreign country. Most countries issue some form of a digital certificate that is accepted by immigration officers that ensure entry to the country. For example, the European Union issues a digital certificate that lets EU citizens travel freely within EU Member states. The EU Digital Certificate contains a QR code with a digital signature to protect it against falsification. It’s fairly simple and straightforward. © COWIN However, in India, COVID-19 vaccine certificates are issued with Prime Minister’s photo at the bottom which is now becoming a cause for concern. According to a story by Vice, Indians travelling abroad are being suspected of fraud. An Indian woman, Deepti Tamhane, presented her vaccine certificate to an immigration officer at Frankfurt airport. The officer then asked the Indian lady about PM Modi’s picture on the certificate and suspected her of falsifying the vaccine certificate. “The woman at the customer service desk was so shocked. She looked at my vaccine certificate over and over again. She told me that she deals with passengers day in and day out, but this was the first time she had seen any prime minister’s photo on a personal document. She thought we were committing a fraud” Tamhane told Vice. © YouTube/PMO A similar case was reported by Reddit user Jujhar_Singh. “My friend got stopped by Siberian immigration at the airport because the man on his vaccine certificate was different from him,” the user said. © Unsplash/phil-mosley The user also went on to add that the immigration officer “shared a really good laugh about the Prime Minister stamping his face on the vaccine. There are several other similar stories highlighted by Vice in its story which we highly recommend checking out for yourself. Prime Minister Modi’s picture on the COVID-19 certificate has been a highly contentious topic in India as well. The Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Bharati Pravin Pawar explained the reason why vaccine certificates have PM Modi’s photo. "The photograph along with the message of the prime minister in the vaccination certificates reinforces the message for creating awareness about the importance of following Covid-19 appropriate behaviour even after vaccination, in the larger public interest," the minister said during her address to Rajya Sabha. 6. The only thing that’s flourishing in India during the pandemic is PM Modi’s beard. It’s growing at the same pace as the number of Covid cases and petrol prices, and there’s no stopping. There have been numerous speculations regarding the purpose behind his reluctance to shave. © Instagram/Narendra Modi These fan theories (yes, I said it) include it’s an attempt to establish a political identity, send across a masculine message, his oath (sankalp) to get the Ram Mandir ready, preparation for the audition for Dumbledore and many more. Okay, the last one might be from the memers and may not be true. The reason is still unknown. © Instagram/Narendra Modi While the world discusses the reason behind his growing beard, Shashi Tharoor has a new word for it. Or should I say, he has an exotic word that he learned and used PM Modi’s beard to teach us because it fits his current grooming situation perfectly. © Instagram/Shashi Tharoor The word is pogonotrophy, which means ‘the act of cultivating, or growing and grooming, a mustache, beard, sideburns or other facial hair’. He edified us with the new word upon a Twitter user’s request. She wrote, “Sir, apart from your articulate speeches I'm waiting for some new word to learn. It's always great to tickle your mind with an out of the box word!” Sir,apart from your articulate speeches I'm waiting for some new word to learn. It's always great to tickle your mind with an out of the box word! — Dr.Priya Anand (@DrPriyaAnand1) July 1, 2021 He replied, “My friend Rathin Roy, the economist, taught me a new word today: pogonotrophy.” Before we could flip the pages of the dictionary to find the meaning, he explained it himself, taking a dig at PM Modi’s full beard. “Which means "the cultivation of a beard". As in, the PM's pogonotrophy has been a pandemic preoccupation…” he continued in the tweet. My friend Rathin Roy, the economist, taught me a new word today: pogonotrophy, which means "the cultivation of a beard". As in, the PM's pogonotrophy has been a pandemic preoccupation... https://t.co/oytIvCKRJR — Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) July 1, 2021 Tharoor should have his own dictionary filled with exotic words that only he can pronounce. He has taught us dozens of words in the past that we don’t think anyone even uses in their everyday life, like floccinaucinihilipilification or lalochezia (look them up on google to enhance your vocabulary). © Instagram/Shashi Tharoor We might not use these ‘convoluted’ words (also from Tharoor’s vocab), but we think we can use this new ‘word of the day’, pogonotrophy, to describe PM Modi’s Pandemic look, at least until he trims his beard off. 7. In a story that would perhaps make the perfect sequel for a film like Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, a disgruntled employee of a news channel posed as PM Modi’s personal secretary to get a new and better paying job at a different news channel. © UTV Motion Pictures Bharat Verma, a resident of Greater Noida, works with a news channel based in Noida. Recently, Verma’s organisation introduced a series of pay cuts for all of its employees. While all the other disgruntled employees accepted their fate and those pay cuts begrudgingly, Verma decided to act on it. © iStock He sent an email to the CEO of a national news channel based in Noida, where he introduced himself as Abhijeet, the personal assistant to the personal secretary of Prime Minister Modi. In the email, Verma informed the CEO that PM Modi’s secretary would like to have a word with him, and would like to allocate a time for that. © BCCL The CEO of the news channel promptly set up a call for the next day. The next day, at the set time, a person called the CEO and introduced himself as the personal secretary of Prime Minister Modi. The caller then said that a man named Bharat Verma should be given an opportunity to work for the news channel and that he would be sending his resume shortly. © iStock The next day, an interview was set up between the CEO & Verma. When Verma arrived for the job interview, the staff, as well as the CEO, grew a little suspicious. Upon further investigation, they found out that it was Verma who had sent them that email, and it was Bharat who had called them. A complaint was lodged against Verma and he was promptly handed over to the police, who booked him under sections 419 (cheating by personation) and 170 (personating a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code. © iStock In a statement to the Times Of India, the Noida police said that Verma worked at the desk of a news channel, where there were pay cuts. They believe Verma hatched this plan, thinking that this would be the best and possibly sureshot way to land a job at a different news channel, without having to go through a rigorous background check. © BCCL Now, we know that people often lie on their resumes, but this was a boss level move that ultimately backfired. Do let us know in the comments what you think about fudging references and work history to secure a new job. View the full article

  10. A hard-hitting editorial published in the US medical journal The Lancet said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “actions in attempting to stifle criticism and open discussion during the crisis are inexcusable.” © Reuters The publication also criticised India’s vaccination programme saying that the message that COVID-19 was essentially over caused the slow down of the vaccination campaign. The Lancet also called the policy "botched" and "falling apart” at the central level. The journal also noted that the Government shifted course without even discussing the change in policy with states. The journal says that India must restructure its response to the rise and success of that effort depends on the government owning up to its mistakes. The journal called for responsible leadership and transparency, and “implementing a public health response that has science at its heart.” Source: The Lancet View the full article
  11. Jewellery billionaire Nirav Modi, who fled away to the UK after being accused in the Punjab National Bank money laundering and fraud of Rs 14,000 crore, is finally returning home. The CBI has confirmed that the UK court has finally approved his extradition and he is now one step away from returning back to India. I find no genuine transactions and believe there is a process of dishonesty. Many of these are a matter for trial in India. I am satisfied again that there is evidence he could be convicted. Prima facie there is a case of money laundering,” the judge said. After multiple hearings, the court has now finally approved extradition and all inhibitions regarding his safety have been shed down. “Modi fears prosecution in India. Although he has expressed suicidal thoughts, the government of India has reassured safe conditions in prison, through a video in August. The video shows better sanitation and hygiene than the video in 2019," said the judge. Don’t know about the ‘acche din’ but there’s hope that Nirav Modi might come back. View the full article

The absurdity is that everyone knows who liberated Bangladesh. https://t.co/ijjDRbszVd — Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) March 26, 2021 However, the Congress MP took to Twitter today to apologise for his earlier tweet. Tharoor admitted that he had made a mistake in criticising the PM’s speech earlier and that it had stemmed from ‘quick reading’ of headlines. Tharoor’s main criticism of PM Modi’s speech in Bangladesh was based on the assumption that the PM had not acknowledged former PM Indira Gandhi’s role in liberating Bangladesh or erstwhile East Pakistan from Pakistan in 1971. His tweet was based on a report which claimed that PM Modi had said that he had held a Satyagraha for Bangladesh’s liberation and had even been jailed for it. He wrote, “I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong. Yesterday, on the basis of a quick reading of headlines & tweets, I tweeted "everyone knows who liberated Bangladesh," implying that @narendramodi had omitted to acknowledge IndiraGandhi. It turns out he did. Sorry!” Here’s the tweet: I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong. 15. After all the gung-ho about banning the Chinese apps and products, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation has now given a contract to a Chinese company, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company Limited, for the construction of a 5.6-kilometer underground stretch of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS project. The stretch will be made from New Ashok Nagar to Sahibabad. “Approvals have to be taken at various levels for bids that are funded by multilateral agencies. This bid was also awarded following the set procedure and guidelines. Now, all the civil work tenders of the 82-km-long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor have been awarded and the construction is going on in full swing to commission the project in time,” an NCRTC spokesperson told PTI. The 82-km-long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is being funded by the Asian Development Bank. The time to commute from Delhi to Meerut will be only one hour as opposed to the earlier which took around 4 hours. The entire corridor will be operational in 2025. After the news started to go viral, people started to question the whole idea of being ‘atmanirbhar’ and attacked the Modi government. They have also started to trend #BoycottChina on Twitter. Five firms qualified for the technical bid evaluation but it was the Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company Limited that emerged as the L1 bidder for the tender after qualifying on all the parameters. 17. The internet has been abuzz since yesterday after the news of PM Modi’s net worth going up over the span of one year hit the internet. The details were accessed after the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) received the latest asset declarations from high profile government officials including PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and others. As per the declaration, it was reported that PM Modi’s net worth saw a rise as compared to last year, while Home Minister Amit Shah’s net worth experienced a dip. Of course, that was enough fodder for the tabloids to churn out hot pieces speculating how the rise and fall in their respective fortunes came into play. © Twitter/indiaandnamo Now while we are yet to get our hands on the finer details related to the hit Amit Shah’s net worth suffered, we’ve been able to identify seven things that added to PM Modi’s net worth this year. Just to give you an overview, PM Modi’s net worth as of 30th June 2020 was Rs 2.85 crore as compared to Rs 2.49 crore in 2019, which is a hike of approximately Rs 36 lakh. So here are the seven major things that have reportedly added to PM Modi’s net worth in the past year. 1. As per reports, PM Modi’s bank account reflected deposits worth Rs 4,143 on 31st March 2019, as opposed to Rs 3.38 lakh on 30th June 2020. The primary increase in PM Modi’s assets are said to have come from bank deposits of around Rs 3.3 lakh. © Twitter/no1_times 2. The declaration also states that safe investment returns worth Rs 33 lakh over the span of one year have also been taken into account for calculation. 3. By June 2020, PM Modi reportedly had Rs 31,450 as cash in hand, a bank balance of Rs 3,38,173 at SBI Gandhinagar branch, as well as a Bank FDR and MOD balance of Rs 1,60,28,939 at the same branch. 4. While last year TOI had reported that PM Modi’s movable assets were estimated at Rs 1.4 crore, this year it has reportedly seen an increase of almost 26 percent and is now expected to be worth Rs 1.7 crore. © Twitter/ANI 5. India Today has also reported that PM Modi also has National Savings Certificates worth Rs 8,43,124, life insurance policies worth Rs 1,50,957 as well as Infra bonds worth Rs 20,000. 6. According to Livemint, PM Modi is also said to be the owner of a 3,531 square feet plot in Gandhinagar Sector 1, while he is the joint owner of 25 percent share-holding of a Gandhinagar house which is valued at Rs 1.1 crore. So PM Modi’s immovable assets may be worth Rs 1.10 crore in the market today. 7. PM Modi is also said to possess four gold rings weighing 45 gram and worth Rs 1.5 lakh. View the full article
