5 Dumb Reasons Why Most Indian Men Skip Leg Days & No, It's Not Because It's Painful

There is a reason why the saying 'friends don't let friends skip leg days' exists. If you actually care about your friend, you'd make sure they do everything that's conducive to their growth, and when it comes to fitness, 'leg day' perhaps is the best example.Β

However, leg daysΒ also somehow have this bad rep of being the most hated day in the gym. While the difficulty level is somewhat responsible, there are other excuses that lead most Indian men to skip this super important day at the gym. Here are 5 silly reasons why most Indian men still don't take their leg days seriously, or worse, skip them altogether.

1. Focus only on big biceps and chest

Mostbeginners only focus on their upper body with the sole goal of having huge biceps and a big chest. To them, as long as shirts and T-shirts 'fit' and stretch, it's been a successful project.

2. Straight up ignoring aesthetic proportions

We all know this guy, don't we? Huge chest, arms and shoulders, but chicken legs. However, he is blissfully unaware of the same. He sometimes even works out in jeans, with a belt on.Β

3. No attention on legs as they are rarely visible in public

Most Indian men are socially conditioned to cover their legs in public - either with full length pants/trousers/jeans, or at least baggy 3/4ths or 'bermuda' shorts. While roaming around shirtless is not that big of an issue, one will rarely see men in India roam around in tight shorts or 'shorty shorts'. The result? No attention on leg musculature. Since most gym goers are vanity oriented and not fitness oriented, the mindset goes like: why work on something I can't show off?Β

4. Working on glutes perceived as 'feminine'

As ridiculous as it sounds, men do face this at certain places because of our super problematic, toxic, gendered take on even the most neutral topics. While anyone sensible would actually want to have fuller, stronger, muscular glutes, insecure gym bros look down upon anyone specifically training their glutes as it apparently only 'suits women'. Glute training is an intrinsic part of leg day, and such messed up notions are only preventing certain individuals from realizing their true potential when it comes to being fit.

5. Lack of full-sized mirrors in households

This may sound like a super trivial non-issue, but because of the vanity oriented, superficial approach to gym in most cases, this also ends up being a contributing factor. Most middle-class Indian households have small mirrors that only let one see till their waist at most. Since men can't really see how disproportionate their physique looks with a buffed up upper body and skinny lower body, they don't get the urge to work on that, as opposed to arms and chest that they can see every single day, without clothes.

Please don't skip leg days, as legs form the foundation of your physique. Not skipping leg day will let you pack more muscle easily, and will also make you fitter and stronger - allowing you to secrete more Testosterone and HGH, and thereby aiding more fat loss. You're welcome.
