‘You Don’t Sell’, Ayushmann On How A Director Lost It When The Actor Rejected His Film

Ayushmann Khurrana is one star who just one day walked into Bollywood, and it was a perfect match!

I mean, for people who have tracked his progress from becoming the first Roadie to becoming a video jockey, to later starring in films, Ayushmann is a complete entertainment package.

Talk about singing, being charming, acting talent, and that million-dollar 'I'll steal your girlfriend' smile, the Punjabi Munda has it all.

On top of that, he's proved that not only is he a great actor, but he's also a really versatile one, who can take risks by doing all sorts of coming-of-age films and still make the audiences across India connect to it.

This is the Ayushmann we know ever since he made his debut in Vicky Donor.

However, did you know that once a Bollywood director said a terrible thing to him

Why? Because he refused to do his film.

This is what Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui actor revealed while speaking to RJ Siddharth Kannan.

After having the perfect debut with Vicky Donor, Ayushmann was in a zone where some of his films like Nautanki Saala, Bewakoofiyaan, and Hawaizaada, just did not work.

He reveals that having seen that, he obviously wanted to be more choosy, and therefore was very selective about which films he wanted to do.

It was then, when he said no to a particular film, the response that he got from the director completely shocked him.

“One of the filmmakers told me, ‘Ayushmann, you don’t sell.’ I had said no to a film and I was told, ‘Ayushmann, you don’t sell, why are you saying no to this film?’ Upkaar jaise kar rahe ho, ki yeh film kar lo (It was like he was doing me a favour by offering me the film),” Ayushmann said.

Now, that really is some horrible thing to say to an actor who is obviously not in a good space of his career.

Fortunately for Ayushmann though, the actor believed in his process and chose his next film very wisely, which happened to be Dum Laga Ke Haisha.

“I waited for two years after Dum Laga Ke Haisha, I did not have a release for two years. I was just waiting for the right film.”

Honestly, if Ayushmann doesn't sell, who really does?
