Twitter User Points Out Oscar Winner 'CODA' Is Rip-Off Of 1996 Salman Starrer & People Agree

Directed by Sian Hader and starring Emilia Jones, Troy Kotsur, Daniel Durant, and Marlee Matlin, CODA created history by becoming the first film from Apple TV and from any OTT platform to win the biggest award at the Oscars ceremony - Best Picture.

CODA stands for Child Of Death Adults and the film is about the only hearing member of a deaf family who tries to help her family while pursuing her dream to become a singer.

After the film won the Best Picture award at the Oscars 2022, a user took to Twitter and pointed out that CODA is a remake of the French film La Famille Bélier (2014), which, in turn, was a remake of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut movie as a director Khamoshi: The Musical starring Salman Khan, Manisha Koirala, Seema Biswas and Nana Patekar.

The user wrote, “Trívia: #CODA is a remake of The Familie Bélier, a French film, itself a remake of the Indian film Khamoshi - The Musical, from 1997 #Oscars”.

Soon after the user pointed it out, a lot of people agreed in unison, while there were others who cast doubts on Khamoshi’s originality.

One user wrote, “I keep waiting for them to mention this!” Another wrote, “Coda and khamoshi does have alot of similarities !!! Khamoshi was a beautiful film”.

One tweet read, “Been saying this forever now”.

However, one user claimed that Khamoshi itself was a remake of the German film Jenseits der Stille but that claim was quashed by another user who mentioned that the Salman Khan starrer was released in August 1996 while the German film released in December of the same year.

Love such trivia. Please note India's indirect connection with #Oscars2022. https://t.co/0XIinltAq1

The only similarity is deaf-mute parents and their musically talented daughter.

But the struggle, plot points, conflicts are different in all 3 movies. https://t.co/blpo8fd7EF

Released on August 9, 1996, Khamoshi: The Musical opened to critical acclaim but failed at the box office.

The film is about a girl named Annie, who takes care of her deaf and mute parents and is inclined towards music.
