Will Smith shocked the world when he walked up to the stage at the 94th Academy Awards and slapped presenter Chris Rock for cracking a joke on his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. 

Later, that evening, Will won the Oscars for Best Actor for his performance in King Richard. However, the damage was done. 

Soon, after the event got over, The Academy held a special meeting to look into the controversy and assured that necessary action will be taken. 

Now, 12 days after the awards show night, a 54-member board of governors have handed over a 10-year ban to Will Smith, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 

This means, Will won’t be allowed to attend the Oscars ceremony for ten years till 2033. However, he will retain his current Oscar statuette and will be eligible to get nominated & even win the trophy again in the next ten years. 

Interestingly, Will had already resigned from the Academy, a week ago. 

After the news of Will Smith’s Oscar ban started doing the rounds of social media,  a user asked to explain the same in cricketing terms and another user had the perfect response to it. 

Comparing Will Smith’s 10-year ban from Oscars ceremony with Shah Rukh Khan’s 5-year ban from Wankhede Stadium, one fan simply replied, “Shahrukh Khan from Wankhede”.

For the unversed, back in 2012, Shah Rukh Khan got into a scuffle with security guard at the Wankhede Stadium after his team Kolkata Knight Riders beat Chennai Super Kings in the final of IPL’s 5th edition.  

Later, SRK was handed over a 5-year ban by the authorities. SRK, in his defense, had stated that the guard in question manhandled his daughter & other kids present at the venue.  

The ban was later lifted after 3 years.
