In the wake of the troubled times, both India and Pakistan are facing, a lot of Bollywood celebrities are coming forward and talking about their experiences with war and turmoil and sharing a thought or two on the prevailing situation.

Shekhar Kapoor too came forth to talk about his experience during the partition between India and Pakistan when he was a child and how his mother struggled to keep him and his sister safe, during the imminent violence that took place in August 1947.

Although the tensions haven't died down at large between India and Pakistan, these memories and untold stories by people who've experienced the wrath between the two countries, come in handy momentarily. And that's because we believe with these stories a longing hope is built to sustain peace and harmony.

Shekhar Kapoor took to Twitter to narrate an incident with his mother and sister during partition and this is what he had to say: "I was born in Lahore. My mother escaped massacre by hiding me n my sister under her body in a train to india. Playing dead. Most people were killed. One million people died in Partition. 10 million refugees. On both sides. India n Pakistan were created of the blood of one people.”

While we can't even imagine the atrocities bestowed upon him, his family and the rest of the people there, we're sure the incident definitely made him more resilient and tolerant towards the ongoing animosity between the two nations.

The BAFTA awardee also tweeted about Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman's return to India, after Pakistan initiated a 'peace gesture' amidst the stifling tensions between the countries. He said “#WingCdrAbhinanadan You have become a beacon of courage patriotism and dignity. And also a beacon of hope. We look forward to welcome you home soon, Sir,”

A few days ago, he'd tweeted again, asking people in India to not think of war against Pakistan, hinting at practising peace instead. He said “It's really important not to fan the flames of war rhetoric. It's not a game. U r not facing bullets or bombs. U r not the family praying and hoping fervently that your husbands brothers or fathers are safe. Nor living in border areas in fear. It's easy to be armchair soldiers.”

In a time of serious crisis, it's always good to find relatable context, so we can ensure some peace within us and around us. With Pakistan seemingly moving towards a non-violent approach and Abhinandan Varthaman's homecoming, here's hoping peace and calm prevails soon enough.
