Deepika Padukone has time and again proven herself by taking up challenging roles and doing justice to them on-screen. After 'Padmaavat', which the actor herself admits to be one of the most difficult films in her career, she is now set to greet us with another path-breaking movie on acid attack titled 'Chhapaak'.

Deepika very recently shared the first look of the film on her Instagram account.

Deepika looks nothing like herself in the first look, and the make-up and prosthetics look pretty convincing in evoking the faces of numerous acid attack survivors we have seen on TV and otherwise, over the years.

1. 'Chhapaak' is being filmed under the directorial vision of Meghna Gulzar of 'Raazi' fame, and this is Deepika and Meghna's first collaboration together.

2. The plot of the movie is based on the real life story of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal who was attacked at the age of 15 by a man and his two friends because she refused to marry the former. Ever since, Laxmi champions the cause of campaigning for the survivors' rights.

"Not every acid attack survivor is like Laxmi, who, despite physical pain, social shaming and ostracism, came out of the experience, stronger, even victorious. There are many who are yet to overcome the trauma. I will be meeting some of these girls in the coming weeks and be working closely with them. 3. The film stars Vikrant Massey as the lead opposite Deepika, and we wonder if he shall be seen as Deepika's nemesis in 'Chhapaak'.

4. Deepika's character in the film is called Malti, and the movie goes on floors today in New Delhi.

5. 'Chhapaak' is being produced by Fox Star Studios, KA Entertainment and Mriga Films, and it is set to release on January 10, 2020.
