It wouldn't be wrong to say that every job done well deserves its share of recognition and appreciation. After all, what else would make all that slogging worthwhile.

However, talking about rewards that hard work can bring our way, one might find a hundred examples to quote. From monetary to material and appreciative rewards and what not, people have enjoys the fruits of their labour in myriad ways.

Yet, never would have the ISC topper from Kolkata, Richa Singh, imagined the reward that awaited her. While most students would be most happy with an award or certificate for their outstanding academic performance, Richa got the best reward by far for standing fourth in the ISC Board exams this year.

Richa, the all India fourth position holder, was made the Deputy Commissioner of Police of Kolkata Police for an entire work day yesterday. That was the district's way of showing appreciation for Richa's commendable academic achievements.

A student of G.D. Birla Centre for Education in Kolkata, Richa scored 99.25 per cent in her class 12th board examinations. According to a Times Now report, Richa "occupied" the chair of the Deputy Commissioner (South Eastern Division) of city police from 6 am to 12 noon during the day.

Daughter of officer-in-charge at Gariahat police station Rajesh Singh, she asked her father to return home early, when she was asked if she had any orders for her father, as she was his “boss” for the day. As for her father, he plans to obey his daughter's order to the T.

Kudos to Kolkata Police department for coming up with such a thoughtful, fun and unusual way of encouraging and rewarding young minds for their achievements.
