Delhi's air pollution problem needed urgent fixing and the government has finally launched a pilot project to tackle the ongoing problem of smog. In the capital, a 20-feet air purifier has been installed in Delhi's Lajpat Nagar market.

The Air Purifier tower has been installed to reduce the particulate matter in the area and experts involved with the project claim it will be able to reduce the same by 80%. Delhi has experienced dangerous levels of air pollution this winter which has been at an alarming level these past few days.

This is not the first time we've seen air purifiers being installed in cities to combat the problem of air pollution. China has already been experimenting with air purifiers appropriate for cities for a while and has installed the world's biggest air purifier two years ago. As a result of the same, air quality saw improvement in an area of 10 square kilometres over a period of few months and the tower produced more than 10 million cubic metres of clean air in the same period of time.

Similarly, the Supreme Court asked the Centre and the Delhi Government to take inspiration from China and come up with a roadmap on installing smog towers in NCR. The newly installed tower cost Rs 7 lakh and was procured by the Gautam Gambhir Foundation. The average running cost of the tower is Rs 30,000 per month and will be paid by the traders' association of Lajpat Nagar. 

This particular smog tower will treat the air in a circumference area of 500-750 square meters and will be able to treat 2,50,000 to 6,00,000 cubic metre of air per day.
