Hundreds of people have fallen prey to the deadly coronavirus outbreak in China. What erupted from the city of Wuhan in the Hubei province in December last year, has since affected over 6,000 people and continues to spread to more parts of the country and even overseas.

People in the country have been asked to take immediate protection against the virus by wearing protective masks while venturing out. As frantic citizens try to get their hands on masks to protect themselves in public, many citizens have come up with innovative or jugaadu masks to aid the cause.

Social media is replete with images of people using bras, sanitary pads and even fruits skins as face masks. Many people are even using plastic bags and water bottles to cover their faces while out in the open.

With the rising death toll in China, more and more people are trying to access protective gear and since nobody wants to take any chances, people have taken it upon themselves to protect their lives and those of their loved ones.

As per initial reports, the coronavirus spreads when an infected person sneezes or coughs. And though it might take anywhere between 4 to 14 days for the symptoms to surface, people have been advised to take precautions in crowded and public places.

Meanwhile, India got its first confirmed case of the virus, which has now been declared as a global health emergency by the WHO.

The positive case has been detected in Kerala's Thrissur district and the patient has been kept in an isolation ward while the number of people under observation in the state rose to 1,053.
