Indian Actors Who Have Endorsed Fairness Creams Are Now Speaking Up About 'Black Lives Matter'

The one thing our precious Bollywood celebrities are best at doing is not actually acting but being a hypocrite. Being woke and standing against injustices when they happen to be in a different country, but always remaining silent when it comes to their own country is performative activism at best. When there were protests happening in India, no celebrity openly expressed their opinions - for or against - them but with everything going on in the USA right now, the murder of George Floyd at the hands of police and the widespread protest against police brutality, so many people have been quick to post #BlackLivesMatter on their Instagram story.

Okay yes, it's good that they're at lease speaking about racial injustices in the world but, oh wait, they're so proudly claiming that âBlack Lives Matterâ right now but where did that 'wokeness' go when they were promoting fairness creams which basically imply that fairness is the final goal and being darker is something that should be changed.

A conversation about how damaging fairness products are, is a long and tiring one and it has been going on for years, yet there's no change. Honestly, Abhay Deol is the only valid actor who had the guts to call out his fellow actors about doing such ads.

A brilliant Twitter thread by user @aluminiummaiden shared Indian celebs fake activism and their fairness cream ad side-by-side and it's honestly hilarious and sad at the same time.

Let's start with our favourite, the one and only Priyanka Chopra.

Of course, Sonam Kapoor has to be a part of this, it would feel incomplete without her presence.

Disha Patani, a simple question - If all colours are beautiful, why are you promoting being as fair as possible?

I'm actually disappointed that Deepika Padukone is here because at least she wasn't silent during protests in India.

This is very vague but let's count it pic.twitter.com/qCRWKsORMw

I don't know if it's worse.

The hypocrisy is astounding.

The same intellectuals who are tweeting 'black lives matter' will see the atrocities in Kashmir and the lynching and carnage of Muslims in India through the prism of patriotism. They will ask you to 'speak like an Indian first' and not defame the nation.

Exactly.

if they rly learned better and are sorry theyâd publicly speak against colourism in India TO Indians who are extemely colourist towards each other

these Bollywood celebs know how much theyâre worshipped in South Asia but refuse to use their influence https://t.co/LmBP26MtmW

Sums it up.

Indian actors: black lives matter!

Also Indian actors: buy this fairness cream because being dark-skinned is a âconditionâ and calling it out does not in anyway emphasize caste differences https://t.co/p6Op1zGYuQ

This is some amazing level of hypocrisy.
