82-Year-Old Grandma Lifting Weights In A Saree Is All The Motivation We Need To Start Working Out

It's Monday, everyone's motivation is at an all-time low with an entire week of work ahead of us, so, obviously, it's time for some Monday motivation.

And, what better way to lift your spirits than watching an 82-year-old woman lifting weights with ease while wearing a saree. Honestly, what is our excuse to procrastinate about actually working out?

The video was shared by Chirag Chordia, the grandson of the badass woman no one should ever even dare to mess with.

View this post on InstagramHere's my 82 year old granny lifting weights and being a total badass! She shows off her paused squat to every visitor, even if they're just casually shocked by the idea that seniors can lift safely! A lot of myths surround senior training because well, it's uncommon for them to lift weights. Just like it was uncommon for women to lift weights in the 90s. I designed her workouts based on: 1๏ธโƒฃ The purpose of training - she wants to be physically independent and capable 2๏ธโƒฃ Her training experience - she said 'what's a gym?' 3๏ธโƒฃ Her health history - let's just say I've read entire books faster than her reports! 4๏ธโƒฃ What she could do and actually enjoyed when we started. What about age, you ask? Age is like BMI. Both are perceived to be useful indicators but rarely, if ever, do they give us the entire context. Everyone CAN train. The kind of training they do differs based on factors more important than age! #GrannyTrains #womenwholift #senior #fitness #fitspo #fitspiration #indiafitness #india #chennaifitness #chennai #fitover40 #strongwomen #womenshealth #trainwithapurpose #train #strength #motivationA post shared by (@chordia.chirag)

After she went viral, there were a few people concerned if it was safe for her to lift such heavy weights at that age and he has some great answers.

ย  View this post on InstagramWhen my grannyโ€™s training video went viral, some people said that she should not lift weights and should instead stick to doing โ€˜sober exercise such as Yogaโ€™. Yet, as often believed, aerobic exercise and general physical activity is rarely enough to keep seniors โ€˜healthyโ€™. Resistance training helps preserve as much muscle, bone and strength as possible as you grow older. Study after study shows positive carryover to fall prevention, improved brain function, decreased risk of mortality, etc. Training helped my granny gain the strength required to do her daily activities independently. Sheโ€™s now able to get down to the toilet seat and the floor and back up, on her own! But is training safe for seniors? Yes! Regardless of what you believe, remember that weights exist in all forms. My granny lifts and moves her 15 litre bucket of water every day with no problem. Thatโ€™s about 15 kg. Nobody seems to tell her that it isnโ€™t safe! A better question might be are we doing too much too soon? Seniors need to resistance train to retain their physical independence and be capable of doing their daily activities! #GrannyTrains #seniortraining #training #fitover50 #fitover40 #fitover60 #fitspiration #inspiration #cardio #lift #lifting #womenwholift #women #strengthtrainingA post shared by (@chordia.chirag)

No truer words have ever been spoken.

LMAO, nothing surprising in this, women from our previous generations can give us all a run for our money when it comes to lifting weights and doing other workouts https://t.co/TT1dGOD7F3
