Extremely Rare Black Tiger Caught On Camera In India & We’re Really Lucky To Have Seen It


2020 can’t seem to stop wow-ing us with all the never-seen-before occurrences it keeps throwing our way. Over the last few months, we have seen reports of various animal sightings in different parts of the world. Animals, both common and rare, left the wilderness and wandered into public view as the human population was restricted within the limits of their concrete forests.

Now even as the world oscillates between lockdowns and unlocks, 2020 seems to be blessing mankind with newer surprises everyday. According to a Daily Mail report, recently, an extremely rare black tiger was spotted in Odisha which has piqued every animal lovers’ interest.

Known as the melanistic tiger, there reportedly only exist seven to eight of them today and was caught on camera by ameteur photographer Soumen Bajpayee. These tigers appear like so because of a gene defect wherein their black stripes hide the orange fur.

This is being seen as a very rare sighting because these tigers are hardly ever seen. The majority of the black tigers can be found in the Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha, which first reported a black tiger sighting in 2007. 

This is indeed a precious sighting and we are definitely in awe of the regal looking tiger and it’s all thanks to Bajpayee that so many of us living in urban cities had the chance to witness this beast from the comforts of our houses.
