Shah Rukh Khan's Aman From 'Kal Ho Na Ho' Is Actually A Manic Pixie Dream Girl & Here's Why

Let's start by talking about one of the most common movie tropes - the manic pixie dream girl.

This is traditionally a female character who is quirky, who is whimsical, who is so eccentric and full of life, her sole purpose is to save the male character from himself.

While some of the most popular examples of this trope are Summer from 500 Days Of Summer and Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim vs The World, this trope was perfectly seen in Katrina Kaif's character in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

Her entire purpose was to help Arjun realize that there's more to life than work and helped him transform from a brooding financial guy to a happy-go-lucky, running with the bulls kind of guy.

Now, coming to the iconic movie Kal Ho Na Ho, Aman is the personification of this very trope. He comes into the lives of all the other characters in the most crucial time and helps change their lives.

The main focus is obviously on Naina; she's dealing with a dysfunctional family while trying to help out her mom financially while trying to complete her education.

She has no time for bullshit and she has so many people to take care of, that she doesn't think about herself.

Enter Aman, who literally teaches her how to smile more.

From a serious character, she becomes this bubbly, outgoing woman who even starts falling in love with Aman. In her transformation, Aman acted as MPDG and helped her throughout.

Moreover, he didn't just stop there, he was there to help out the entire family, be it emotionally or financially. From fixing the saas-bahu relationship to saving their business, Aman was the dream guy who changed their lives forever.

I don't know if it was intentional or not, but this trope was really unexpected in a movie like this, that too played by none other than Shah Rukh Khan.
