Everything Wrong With 'FAU-G' That Makes Us Wish 'PUBG Mobile' Wasn’t Banned In India

FAU-G, the game every Indian was hoping to be a replacement for PUBG Mobile even though developers nCore games said multiple times in the past that it won’t be an alternative. Instead, the game focuses on a single-player experience by offering episodic missions focusing on Indian soldiers. The first episode focuses on recreating incidents that occurred at the Galwan Valley in Ladakh. However, there’s more to a game than just the story. It needs to have robust game mechanics, smooth gameplay and possibly a way to play with your friends. FAU-G has failed at delivering every fundamental mechanic that makes up a game and here’s everything that went wrong:

1. It Was Rushed

"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad, - Shigeru Miyamoto

This quote by the legendary Japanese game developer is probably more applicable to FAU-G than any other mobile game that has been released in the recent past. FAU-G was in no state for a launch and it seems like the game was rushed to capitalise on filling the void left by the ban of PUBG Mobile in India. It’s clear from the current state of the game that there was much more planned but the developers did not have enough time to implement anything. In fact, the game offers gameplay worse than games from the 1990s and is simply not fun. Currently, you can only use melee attacks, move and block which gets quite boring towards the end.

2. Lack of Content

The fact that there was only one episode, no variety of weapons and no multiplayer option shows that the game was simply not ready. With only one narrative episode that doesn’t last too long and has next to no story, this game needed more content at launch. As of now, the game is not long enough to keep players enthralled which led to a majority of players uninstalling the game after completing the first mission.

3. Boring Gameplay

I’ve been covering games for the better half of the decade and I am yet to come across a more boring game than FAU-G. All you have to do is keep tapping the attack button to defeat your enemies and occasionally block attacks from your enemies. What baffled us, even more, is that there were no guns to use. I found it quite odd that as an Indian soldier, I did not have access to guns to defeat my enemies. There are only melee weapons to use at the moment which makes using soldier character models a bit pointless right now. Also, the enemy NPCs AI is absolutely horrendous which makes the game quite easy to play and does not pose any challenge to players.

4. No Multiplayer

As of now, there is no multiplayer mode to speak of which means you cannot play with your friends in a team deathmatch or a free-for-all mode. The reason why PUBG Mobile, COD Mobile and Free Fire are popular in India is because they let gamers play with their friends together as a team or against other players creating some sense of competition. It seems like nCore games have yet to resolve its net code and server problems that could have been the reason behind its delay. Also, since there are no guns players can use at the moment, it would be a bit awkward to see players swinging a pipe at each other in the multiplayer mode.
