Ashwin Deletes Tweet After ‘Jinxing’ India’s Good Start But Rohit Sharma Fans Are Too Quick

When it comes to any kind of sport, fans and athletes blame superstition as soon as things begin to go against them and the third and final ODI match between India and England seems to carry on the same for the hosting side.

Following a fantastic start to the innings off a 103-run partnership between openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, the Men in Blue seemed to be well on their way to a 400-plus run total. The run rate was high, the wickets were in hand, the left-right combination at the top looked to be in great form and ready to punish the English bowlers.

This is when Indian Test veteran Ravichandran Ashwin decided to boast the skill-set of his compatriots and even suggested the possibility of Sharma going for another one of those iconic double-tons.

As fate would have it, Sharma ended up getting bowled out by spinner Adil Rashid on the 37th delivery while sitting at as many runs. A couple of overs later, it was Dhawan who fell to Rashid, this time on a caught and bowled. The mighty opening partnership, bundled within 12 deliveries.

In-form batsman Virat Kohli was also caught by surprise when Moeen Ali ripped the bails off of his stumps with a stunner of a spinner and the skipper had to return to the dugout for a cheap 7-run innings.

A 99-run partnership between Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya did allow Kohli’s side some respite in the middle overs but Sam Curran spoiled the fun, forcing a caught-behind to Jos Buttler and ending his stint at 78.

Believing that he had ended up cursing his teammates’ form, Ashwin not only deleted his older tweet but also acknowledged what he had done.

I deleted the previous tweet! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ #jinxedagoodstart #INDvsENG

“I deleted the previous tweet! #jinxedagoodstart,” he tweeted.

Unable to see their idol reach the 200-run mark (or even a half century, for that matter), Rohit Sharma fans quickly hopped onto Ashwin’s Twitter handle to have a friendly banter with the off-spinner:
