‘Can’t Stop Lord Thakur,’ Fans Spot Ben Stokes Checking Shardul’s Bat After Getting Hit For Six

After getting off a high-scoring start to the innings in the first half of the third and final One Day International against the visiting England side at Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, the Indian cricket team was struggling to reach a respectable total to defend against the extremely talented batting roster of the Englishmen.

Following the dismissal of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan at the end of a 103-run partnership, the duo of Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya managed to drive up the run-rate in on their quest to score more than 350 runs for the team.

And despite sharing 99 runs between them, a stunning delivery by Sam Curran and Jos Buttler’s lightening-fast reflexes behind the stumps led to the 23-year old southpaw being forced to return to the dressing room, albeit with a career-high 78-run innings.

Pant left the pitch when India were struggling at 256/5 with 14 overs still in the bank to make the most out of. In came one of the favourite all-rounders for the Indian fans, Shardul Thakur, who didn’t get an opportunity to show his prowess with the bat ahead of the final match.

Strike rates in today's match:-

Looking in some sort of a hurry to score big, Thakur started swinging for the fences with a sense of urgency. While a few of the deliveries didn’t connect with his blade, the ones that did, led to some incredible shots all over the MCA Stadium.

In his short yet impactful innings of 21 balls, Shakur scored 30 runs with 22 runs coming off boundaries (one 4 and three 6’s).

One of the maximums that Thakur had hit, went for a decent 76 metres off a Ben Stokes delivery and while the shot was a beauty, it was what happened after the six that caught fans’ attention.

Marvelling at Thakur’s strength, Stokes walked up to the batsman and started checking his bat in disbelief. Smiling towards the England player, Thakur also gave him a friendly punch on the forearm before going back to the crease.

Fans who playfully refer to the Indian all-rounder as ‘Lord Thakur’ went on Twitter to talk about the moment:
