Twitter Takes Down Posts Critical Of Modi Govt’s Handling Of COVID & People Have Questions

There has been an alarming surge in Covid cases recently in India and a lot of people are aggressively blaming the government for not being able to provide the necessary requirements.

Amid all of this, Twitter has taken down over 50 posts from its platform criticising the centre, after orders from the government.

The majority of the tweets that were removed were critical of the way the Centre has been handling the rising cases. There's an acute shortage of beds and oxygen, and the deleted tweets highlighted the shortages as well.

The details of this order have been raised on the Lumen database, a website that analyses the data and removes unwanted material from the web.

Furthermore, tweets related to mass cremations as well as gatherings of the crowd have also been taken down. These tweets may not be visible to Indian users but will continue to stay as it is outside the country.

Some accounts that posted such tweets include those by actor Vineet Kumar Singh, filmmaker and former journalist Vinod Kapri, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera, ABP News editor Pankaj Jha, a minister from West Bengal Moloy Ghatak, etc.

All the posts and tweets added by these accounts have been withheld and the users in India will not be able to see their content.

Earlier, the Centre had asked Twitter to remove content related to 'farmer genocide' and remove almost 1,200 accounts, during the time of the farmers' protests against the new farm laws.

Meanwhile, Twitter's latest move has not gone down well with a lot of people:

If that was so it is highly undemocratic on part of govt to shield it's own shortcomings to handle the situation in #India .#GodiMedia

To prevent criticism of fatso & fatso, they have jailed, threatened, murdered, bribed and changed laws. The money spent on buying media houses boggles the mind.
If only they had shown this determination & farsightedness towards the #Covid situation...

By hiding the truth @TwitterIndia @Twitter are stopping spread of awareness and further destabilising recovery efforts.
