After one year of doubts, disappointment and utter chaos surrounding the Chennai Super Kings, the three-time Indian Premier League champions seem to have gotten back to their usual spot during the season - right on top. 

Chasing down a decent total of 171 runs put forward by David Warner’s SunRisers Hyderabad with nine balls and seven wickets to spare, CSK got their fifth consecutive win of the 14th edition and glided to the number one spot in the IPL Points Table to dethrone Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore.

A key member of the Super Kings in the past, Jadhav had a disappointing final season with the Whistle Podu squad. In the five innings he batted for them during the 13th edition, he could only collate 62 runs and failed to make an impact on the game like he used to, before.

In February 2021, it was confirmed that CSK had released five players from its roster and Jadhav’s name was on top of the list. 

Heading into free-agency, the all-rounder ended up keeping the highest base price of Rs. 2 crore for the mini-auction and was finally picked by the Hyderabad team for the said amount.

However, the 36-year old did stun a few of his critics when he got to the pitch on Wednesday to add a few runs to the board for his side and ended up smashing 12 runs off just 4 deliveries with one four and a six coming off his bat in quick succession.

Despite a decent start to the final, Warner’s bowling attack was unable to stop Ruturaj Gaikwad’s stormy innings in which he scored 75 off 44 deliveries to lead CSK to a five-game win streak. As a result, Hyderabad remains stuck at the bottom of the Points Table while Chennai sits on top luxuriously.
