Arjan Singh Bhullar has become the first Indian-origin Mixed Martial Arts World Champion by defeating Brandon Vera to become the world heavyweight champion at One Championship, Singapore.

Bhullar ended Vera's five-year championship-winning streak by completely dominating in the second round of the fight. "It's the first time in my entire career that I felt gassed in the first round. I'm in shape, we've been training, we've been working with the best people in the world. This is new for me," Vera said in the post match interview.

Bhullar's approach was rather cautious in the first round, but eventually he managed to take Vera down towards the end of the opening frame. In the second round, Bhullar was far more aggressive and left Vera gasping for air with a body shot. It was beginning to look like game over for Vera the moment Bhullar closed him into a body lock, eventually pounding him out for a technical knockout victory.

Following his victory, Arjan Singh Bhullar took to Instagram to celebrate the occasion and let his fans know what it meant for him. He wrote, "I am humbled by the outpouring of love and support from across the (globe) As my inner circle knows this camp we were tested more than in any other, yet the faith and belief held firm. Life has taught me time and again that when something is meant to be nobody and nothing can stop it from happening. I love you all. God has been great. I will carry this belt with pride. I will represent the company @onechampionship proudly. I will represent the🇮🇳community respectfully. I will represent my family honorably. Big things coming."

Prior to this feat, Bhullar had also won the Commonwealth games gold medal in New Delhi in 2010 and in London in 2012. He was also the first Indian-origin freestlye wrestler to represent Canada at the Olympics. He was also the first Indian-origin fighter to win a UFC fight.
