Sushil Kumar, who used to be one of the most loved and adored athletes of the country in the history, was finally captured by the Delhi Police for being involved in the murder case of junior wrestler Sagar Rana.

Video of the two-time Olympic medallist being held by both hands, covering his face with a yellow towel and being escorted by the Special Cell has found its way online, only to break the hearts of millions of his fans who used to treat him with respect for everything he had achieved for the nation as a wrestler.

After the death of the victim following assault on May 5, 2021, Kumar was charged under Sections 302 (murder), 365 (abduction), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

However, the 37-year-old managed to evade the law and continued to hop from one hideout to another with the hopes of not getting caught. In the past couple of weeks, reports of Kumar’s whereabouts sprouted in and around the National Capital Region.

It was believed that Kumar first went to Yoga Guru’s ashram in Haridwar, then Rishikesh, and even Meerut. A picture was captured at the Meerut toll booth in Uttar Pradesh in which the wrestler could be seen sitting in the non-driver’s seat of a white car, which was his first image since his absconsion.

"A team of Special Cell led by Inspector Shivkumar, Inspector Karambir and supervised by ACP Attar Singh has arrested Sushil Kumar and Ajay from Mundka area of Delhi in connection with the killing of 23-year-old Sagar Rana at Chhatrasal Stadium," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) P S Kushwah said.

Delhi Police had also announced a price reward of Rs. 1 Lakh and Rs. 50,000 for anyone with the information on the whereabouts of Kumar and his accomplice Ajay, respectively.
