Currently under a six-day custody of the Delhi Police for the murder of fellow wrestler Sagar Rana, Sushil Kumar has been reportedly numb during his time at the Model Town police station where he was taken for questioning, following his arrest on Saturday, May 22 2021.
Over the last couple of days, media reports and sources have suggested that the two-time Olympic medallist has cried, refused to eat anything and has expressed regret towards the death of the 23-year old. He has also said that he had no intention of killing Rana and just wanted to scare him a little bit.

However, the accused wrestler's counsel, BS Jakhar has suggested five reasons why he thinks his client is being falsely framed. He does so while in a conversation with InsideSport:
1. Sushil Kumar’s Name Not In Original FIR:“In the FIR filed there was no mention of Sushil. It was after Sagar Dhankar (one of the victims) died, the Delhi Police included Pahelwan (Sushil)... we have denied and said the incident was just a quarrel between two groups at the stadium and Sushil had just come to intervene and resolve it.”
2. Quick On The Non-Bailable Warrant:“Never has in history the Delhi Police issued a non-bailable warrant in just 10 days. Even if it’s a dreaded criminal. Then why against Sushil Pahelwan? (sic).”

4. Trying To Get False Confession:“He is in remand now. There they are trying to get (him) to falsely confess the crime which he has not even committed. He has denied to give a signature on any paper and therefore such claims.”
5. Where’s The CCTV Footage?:“They have 90 days to file the chargesheet. The famed clip, which police claims shows Sushil during the incident, where is it? We are waiting for the next hearing now.”
