In what would be a dagger in the heart of neighbors China, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi did the unthinkable by calling up Tibetan spiritual leader, the 14th Dalai Lama on his 86th birthday to wish him a 'long, healthy life'.

In light of the recent events that include last year's long stand-off in eastern Ladakh, India and China have really remained thorns in each other's paths, and despite diplomatic talks showing otherwise, clearly do not consider each other very close friends.
China, regardless of what its relations are with India, has occupied and ruled Dalai Lama's Tibet since 1951, in what is considered "a calculated and systematic strategy aimed at the destruction of their (Tibet's) national and cultural identities.”
Earlier, due to the pressure of China, India had been forced to abide by China's 'One China Policy', however, things have obviously not stayed normal between the two sides ever since the Galwan Valley clash broke out in eastern Ladakh.
And now, it looks like India might have finally found out a way to ruffle Chinese President Xi Jinping by following the ancient proverb that goes like,
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

In what will certainly have political ramifications for India, PM Modi on Tuesday (July 06) rang up the Dalai Lama to speak to him on his birthday. Soon after the call, PM Modi took to Twitter to share the news as well.
Spoke on phone to His Holiness the @DalaiLama to convey greetings on his 86th birthday. We wish him a long and healthy life.

As per a source from Dharamsala speaking to Hindustan Times, the Dalai Lama was absolutely delighted to get the call from the Indian Prime Minister, with whom he spoke for a period of around 20 minutes.
During his address on his birthday, the spiritual leader thanked people across the world for wishing him and said that he has taken full advantage of India's freedom as well as religious harmony and is committed to reviving ancient Indian knowledge.
Soon after the news broke out of a relationship brewing between PM Modi and Dalai Lama, probably at the expense of China, people could not hold back from taking to Twitter to share their reactions.
One person questioned whether it was the first time in seven years that PM Modi had publicly acknowledged speaking with the spiritual leader. "Is this the first time PM Modi as Prime Minister has publicly acknowledged speaking with the Dalai Lama since 2014? I can’t seem to recall this happening previously. In any case, the messaging to China is significant." he tweeted.
