Chris Pratt Will Be Playing Mario In New Animated Movie And Here’s How People Reacted

Chris Pratt has been cast in the role of Mario in the upcoming animated movie by Nintendo. The news was announced at the Japanese company’s live event earlier this morning. The movie is being developed by the company Illumination and will feature all of the main characters from the popular video game series.

Details about the new movie have not been revealed, however we do know that some of the major characters will be voiced by an A-list cast. Starring alongside Pratt will be Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, Fred Armisen, Kevin Michael Richardson, Sebastian Maniscalco and Charles Martinet.

While people reacted positively to the announcement, many were disappointed that the original voice actor for Mario; Charles Martinet, was not cast for the role. Charles Martinet has been voicing Mario in Nintendo’s games since the 1990s and also voiced related characters such as Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi.

Having said that, soon after the announcement, the internet was quick to react to the news expressing a range of emotions. Aside from the positive reactions, many took the opportunity to make some hilarious memes and jokes:

Following the announcement, Chris Pratt released a video of him imitating Mario. While in the video Pratt doesn’t really do a great job of impersonating Mario, we're not too worried about his performance in the animated movie.
