OnePlus 9 Series Gets A Big Upgrade With The XPan Camera Mode & Here’s How It Works

The OnePlus 9 series has been the talk of the tech world for all the right reasons. Its powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, Bluetooth 5.2, 45000 mAh battery, 6.7-inch curved LTPO AMOLED screen and corner-mounted punch hole camera make it instantly likeable.

But the hoorahs for this series don’t end here.

The global technology giant recently announced that the OnePlus 9 series will pack the XPan camera mode - a breakthrough feature for smartphone photography.

OnePlus & Hasselblad’s Collaboration

Trusted by NASA and used by some of the greatest photographers in the world, Hasselblad is the final word in cameras.

When the 80-year-old manufacturer of cameras and lenses ‘Hasselblad’ decided to collaborate with OnePlus - we knew smartphone cameras would witness a big revolution, and the XPan mode on the OnePlus 9 series proved us right.

XPan Mode On The OnePlus 9 Series

The XPan mode on the phone mimics the classic Hasselblad XPan camera experience - which enabled photographers to shoot on a 35mm camera, and simultaneously switch to full panorama mode without changing the reel.

The XPan mode will have two focal lengths of 30mm and 45mm - perfect to switch into panorama mode and capture more in a single shot.

One can shoot in black and white mode (for stand-out portraits, street photography) as well as the colour mode to bring out the realistic shades in every shot.

Aspect Ratio Of 65:24 - How It Helps

The XPan mode on the OnePlus 9 series sidesteps the default 12MP camera. The images taken are cropped from the 48MP main camera and 50MP ultra-wide camera instead. Result? Ultra-high resolution shots that pack a remarkable field of view.

XPan images feature 7552 × 2798 resolution on 30mm and 7872 × 2916 resolution on 45mm.

Reminiscent Of The Traditional Film Camera

In the XPan mode, once you press the shutter, the frozen picture is first presented as a negative film which develops into the image that’s ultimately saved on your phone. The capture process is reminiscent of the traditional film camera and pays homage to the ritual of film development.

OnePlus has wonderfully replicated the look and feel of the classic XPan camera in its latest series. It’s the perfect tool for creating timeless visuals and capturing moments in high definition.
