  1. The Lok Sabha Election fervour is at its peak now, and political parties are leaving no stones unturned when it comes to promoting their parties on social media. As spotted by the folks over at altnews, it looks like some pro-BJP pages on Facebook are dropping a lot of money on Facebook to reach the masses. And we're talking in crores here. So how much money are we talking here and what are these people promoting? altnews took some help from Facebook's new ad transparency tool, that helps you keep an eye on the pages that are spending money on Facebook to promote their propaganda. You can check out the tool right here. © Facebook As you can see, the screenshot, which shows the top five spenders from March 17, 2019, to March 23, 2019, are all pro-BJP pages. “Bharat Ke Mann Ki Baat”, “My First Vote For Modi”, “Nation with NaMo”, are all pages that support BJP. In fact, these aren't the only pages. You'll see a lot of pages promoting BJP. “Bharat Ke Mann Ki Baat” is the top spending page that has dropped over Rs. 1 Crore on these ads. Each of the ads put up by these pages has anywhere between 10K to 50K impressions, and they have more than a few ads running at the same time. Clearly, these pages are reaching out to millions of Facebook users across the country. © Facebook In fact, some pages are even going as far as giving away freebies like merchandise to lure voters. The range of freebies offered by these pages includes badges, bags, T-shirts, phone covers, and more. “Pledge your first vote for PM Modi for the better India and win exciting goodies”, reads one of the ads. Of course, there's no way to tell how much of this is real. Even if it's the case, we hope people aren't falling for these practices and casting their votes for, say, a bag or a t-shirt.

Pages SuperDocs is a set of responsive Pages templates. It is loosely based on the design of the IPS Developer Documentation section, but the concept has been extended into a turnkey solution for all sorts of category-based Pages databases. Live Demo Version 1.1.2 for 4.3 only added. What’s needed: IPS 4.2 or 4.3 in its most recent version with the Pages application A pages database that uses Categories. (Up to 4 levels can be shown in the Record View navigation) What’s recommended: Pages SuperDocs is compatible with the Pages Category Images plugin. Upload images for your database categories with it and Pages SuperDocs will make your database look even more appealing (See screenshots for a comparison). Without this plugin, you will only be able to change the header image of the SuperDocs templates. Which templates are included: A category listing template to be used as the homepage for your database. It features a header box with the database title and description on a user-defined color gradient and background image. A Listing template replacing the dull forum listing design that is used by default. Both your categories and records are shown in a simplistic and beautiful grid layout. If you have the Pages Category Images plugin, your category images will be shown here as well. A unique Record View template. It supports all the stock features (Ratings, reactions, comments, reviews …), but adds a useful navigation tree at the side. With it, users can easily jump between individual records. The main level is always shown. All categories and records within a main level entry will be shown automatically, once you open records within that category. For database with many records per category, the output of records in the navigation can be suppressed. Note: You can use the templates for any number of databases, but the settings will always apply to all SuperDocs templates. Detailed Feature Description and Notes: The templates are fully responsive but work best on pages without a sidebar, since the included navigation in the record view adds a column to the layout. The templates come with several options you can easily adjust through the included settings plugin. Base color—Used for the category boxes and the gradient Gradient color—When different from base color, creates a gradient for the header area Category image aspect ratio—Only used if you have the category image plugin installed. Box font color—The font color in the header area sitting over the box and gradient colors Active color—Link color of the active record in the SuperDocs navigation Use custom header image—Link a file to be shown in the header area Author in Record View—show/hide author in record view Levels of Records—How many levels of records are shown in the navigation? Category box text alignment—left/center/right alignment of text in category boxes

Add an image to every IPS Pages database category for use in your templates! NOTE: V1 plugin users please see note near bottom for installation instructions - short version is do NOT uninstall the plugin! Any settings? Nope. Just install and go. When editing/creating a category in an IPS Pages database this application appends a new tab where you can upload an image. That's it. And how do I use this? Images are stored wherever you have set the Pages Category Images file handler set to store them and you can access the image anywhere the $category variable is available to you in Pages templates. $category->pcimage = The local url to the stored image. You will rarely use this by itself as it will return "uploads/monthly_07/thisismyimagename_34erjfhrufhdheh.jpg" or something along those lines. {file="$category->pcimage"} = The COMPLETE url to the stored image. "https://myawesomesite.com/uploads/monthly_07/thisismyimagename_34erjfhrufhdheh.jpg". Just sticking this in a template will output that as a line of text. <img src='{file="$category->pcimage"}'> = The image will be displayed in your template at this location at full size. You get the idea. From here you can format the image with css, use it as a background element, and so on. Why am I using this again? Give every category its own image. Format it like an icon and stick it next to the category title in your templates. You could create a large section background for your categories using this image. And so on... Why $category->pcimage and not just $category->image? If IPS ever adds something like this to Pages database categories themselves I predict with 99.999% certainty they would use the word "image". I added the "pc" in front to hedge against that potential future conflict. What happens if I disable this application? Everything will continue to work, you just won't be able to add an image to Pages database categories until you re-enable it. You are just disabling the category edit/create category image tab when you disable this; that's all. And if I uninstall this? All of your uploaded images will be deleted of course. Consider that you will be editing your Pages templates to add calls to these images too. You'll need to edit your templates to remove those calls after you uninstall this. Did this used to be a plugin? Yep. Now its an application with a proper file handler. I have the plugin now should I uninstall that or...? DO NOT UNINSTALL THE PLUGIN! You'll lose all of your files and have to re-upload them again. I've set up the install routine for the new application to handle it all for you. Install the app just like any other app and it will automatically take over the file handling from the piggybacked core_Attachments handler, remove the plugin uninstall routine that would normally delete your uploaded images, and then uninstalls the plugin for you. If for some reason you install the plugin again afterwards you're on your own... Seriously, delete any copies of the plugin you have lying around. Only bad can come from those being used after you've installed the app. What's New in Version 2.0 Moved to application from plugin. Own File Handler
  6. We often get asked how to create a portal-like home page for a community. A homepage has many benefits including: Showing your best content first By using the "Our Picks" blocks, you can display your best content first. This content sets the tone for the site and will encourage engagement across your site. Display multiple areas of the suite Each application has its own feed blocks that can be used to display content on the home page. If your members use Gallery heavily, then showcase those photos on the homepage. If you use Calendar a lot to schedule events, then show event feeds. By displaying feeds to content is a great way to showcase all areas of your site on a single page. Reduce confusion For those of us that grew up with forums are used to viewing a list of categories and forums. We find it easy to scan the list of forums and dip into the ones that interest us. For those that are not so familiar, a homepage displaying easily accessible content reduces the confusion and invites true content discovery. In this short video, we show you how to create a homepage in under 5 minutes using the Pages app. Pages is available with all Cloud plans and is available to purchase when buying a self-hosting license. This video shows: How to set Pages as the default application How to create a Page Builder page How to configure blocks to fine tune the feeds As you can see, it's a straightforward task, and you do not need to know any programming or design to create a compelling homepage. Do you have a homepage like this? We'd love to see it!
  7. Pages is one our most flexible applications. We use Pages on this site for our news blog, our release list and our bug tracker. We also use it internally to track customer suggestions, knowledge base articles and more. The most common use for Pages is as a simple articles database. With its built in templates, you can create interesting and engaging pages in just a few minutes. This is how we have it configured for this news blog. In this entry, we'll be looking at something a little out of the ordinary. In just five minutes, you can create a simple curated YouTube video gallery on your website using Pages. All of this functionality is built in. You won't need to learn code, or install any plug-ins. Check out the video below for a walk through which covers: Creating a database and page Using the 'Easy Mode' page editor to drag and drop the database into place Setting up the database's custom fields for YouTube You can take this further by tweaking the built in templates to create something unique for your site. You may wish to use a different listing page and show thumbnails of the videos to entice your visitors into the site. This is ideal for sites which use YouTube heavily but wish to keep the discussion on your site. The built in comments and review sections display just under the video. Pages opens up many different ways of curating and displaying content. We'd love to see how you're using Pages, let us know in the comments!
  8. Social media promotion should be a part of any marketing strategy. Curating interesting content from your community and sharing to social media channels like Facebook and Twitter is a great way to drive traffic to your site. Invision Community 4.2 introduced Social Media Promotions to allow this. You hit the promote button, fill out the text to share with each service, click which photos to include and schedule the promotion or send it immediately. We use this feature almost every single day to share highlights to our Invision Community Facebook page and Twitter. This feature has had a significant impact in attracting visitors to our blog. This is now a core part of our marketing strategy. So what's new in Invision Community 4.3? Facebook Groups and Pages A popular feature request was to allow sharing to Facebook groups that you are an administrator of, as well as Pages you own. Not only that, but we now allow you to share to many places at once. When setting up Facebook, you can choose which Facebook properties to be used when promoting. When sharing content, you can choose where to share it to right on the dialog. Here you can see that we're sharing to two of three possible places. "It's a secret" is a Facebook Group (which makes it a pretty poor secret). The "Lindy Throgmartin Fan Club" is my favourite page on all of Facebook. What it lacks in members, it makes up for in enthusiasm. You may also notice that the Facebook box is empty. Facebook have very strict guidelines on sharing content. They prefer that you do not auto-populate the content. You can always access the item's original content on the promote dialog, so you can refer to it. Setting a custom page title When you share to social media channels, you also have the opportunity to add to the 'Our Picks' page. We've made it possible to add a custom title for the Our Picks page so you don't have to use the content item title, although this is still the default. Editing an Our Pick When editing an item shared to 'Our Picks', you now have the option of editing all the data, including the title and the images attached. The Our Picks page showing the custom title Thanks to your feedback, we saw several places that we can improve this already popular feature. We hope you enjoy these changes which makes your social promotion strategy even easier to execute. I know we'll be making good use of them!
