  1. Without a doubt, clubs is one of the most popular features added to Invision Community in recent times. Invision Community clubs allows you to run sub-communities on your site. We've seen clubs used in many ways, including managing geographically local groups and clan groups for large gaming sites. This popularity drives us to keep incrementally improving the feature set for clubs, and Invision Community 4.5 is no different. One thing that was raised many times was a way for club owners and leaders to create simple pages with general information members need. Happily, in Invision Community 4.5, this feature now exists (and more!) In addition to the title and visual editor that allows full formatting of the page content, there is an additional visibility setting which allows owners and leaders to define which types of members can view the page. This is perfect for showing a page that is only visible to non-members which informs them how to join the club. Likewise, it is a great way to display moderation guidelines to the club moderators only. Of course, owners and leaders will always be able to see all pages added to a club. Additionally, once a page is added to a club, a tab will be added alongside others, and the page can be re-arranged just like the rest. Using this, owners and leaders can create an alternative unique index page for the club. default-view.mp4 This is just one of many club improvements finished for Invision Community 4.5. We'll be talking about these in a future blog!
  2. The Lok Sabha Election fervour is at its peak now, and political parties are leaving no stones unturned when it comes to promoting their parties on social media. As spotted by the folks over at altnews, it looks like some pro-BJP pages on Facebook are dropping a lot of money on Facebook to reach the masses. And we're talking in crores here. So how much money are we talking here and what are these people promoting? altnews took some help from Facebook's new ad transparency tool, that helps you keep an eye on the pages that are spending money on Facebook to promote their propaganda. You can check out the tool right here. © Facebook As you can see, the screenshot, which shows the top five spenders from March 17, 2019, to March 23, 2019, are all pro-BJP pages. “Bharat Ke Mann Ki Baat”, “My First Vote For Modi”, “Nation with NaMo”, are all pages that support BJP. In fact, these aren't the only pages. You'll see a lot of pages promoting BJP. “Bharat Ke Mann Ki Baat” is the top spending page that has dropped over Rs. 1 Crore on these ads. Each of the ads put up by these pages has anywhere between 10K to 50K impressions, and they have more than a few ads running at the same time. Clearly, these pages are reaching out to millions of Facebook users across the country. © Facebook In fact, some pages are even going as far as giving away freebies like merchandise to lure voters. The range of freebies offered by these pages includes badges, bags, T-shirts, phone covers, and more. “Pledge your first vote for PM Modi for the better India and win exciting goodies”, reads one of the ads. Of course, there's no way to tell how much of this is real. Even if it's the case, we hope people aren't falling for these practices and casting their votes for, say, a bag or a t-shirt.

Pages SuperDocs is a set of responsive Pages templates. It is loosely based on the design of the IPS Developer Documentation section, but the concept has been extended into a turnkey solution for all sorts of category-based Pages databases. Live Demo Version 1.1.2 for 4.3 only added. What’s needed: IPS 4.2 or 4.3 in its most recent version with the Pages application A pages database that uses Categories. (Up to 4 levels can be shown in the Record View navigation) What’s recommended: Pages SuperDocs is compatible with the Pages Category Images plugin. Upload images for your database categories with it and Pages SuperDocs will make your database look even more appealing (See screenshots for a comparison). Without this plugin, you will only be able to change the header image of the SuperDocs templates. Which templates are included: A category listing template to be used as the homepage for your database. It features a header box with the database title and description on a user-defined color gradient and background image. A Listing template replacing the dull forum listing design that is used by default. Both your categories and records are shown in a simplistic and beautiful grid layout. If you have the Pages Category Images plugin, your category images will be shown here as well. A unique Record View template. It supports all the stock features (Ratings, reactions, comments, reviews …), but adds a useful navigation tree at the side. With it, users can easily jump between individual records. The main level is always shown. All categories and records within a main level entry will be shown automatically, once you open records within that category. For database with many records per category, the output of records in the navigation can be suppressed. Note: You can use the templates for any number of databases, but the settings will always apply to all SuperDocs templates. Detailed Feature Description and Notes: The templates are fully responsive but work best on pages without a sidebar, since the included navigation in the record view adds a column to the layout. The templates come with several options you can easily adjust through the included settings plugin. Base color—Used for the category boxes and the gradient Gradient color—When different from base color, creates a gradient for the header area Category image aspect ratio—Only used if you have the category image plugin installed. Box font color—The font color in the header area sitting over the box and gradient colors Active color—Link color of the active record in the SuperDocs navigation Use custom header image—Link a file to be shown in the header area Author in Record View—show/hide author in record view Levels of Records—How many levels of records are shown in the navigation? Category box text alignment—left/center/right alignment of text in category boxes

Add an image to every IPS Pages database category for use in your templates! NOTE: V1 plugin users please see note near bottom for installation instructions - short version is do NOT uninstall the plugin! Any settings? Nope. Just install and go. When editing/creating a category in an IPS Pages database this application appends a new tab where you can upload an image. That's it. And how do I use this? Images are stored wherever you have set the Pages Category Images file handler set to store them and you can access the image anywhere the $category variable is available to you in Pages templates. $category->pcimage = The local url to the stored image. You will rarely use this by itself as it will return "uploads/monthly_07/thisismyimagename_34erjfhrufhdheh.jpg" or something along those lines. {file="$category->pcimage"} = The COMPLETE url to the stored image. "https://myawesomesite.com/uploads/monthly_07/thisismyimagename_34erjfhrufhdheh.jpg". Just sticking this in a template will output that as a line of text. <img src='{file="$category->pcimage"}'> = The image will be displayed in your template at this location at full size. You get the idea. From here you can format the image with css, use it as a background element, and so on. Why am I using this again? Give every category its own image. Format it like an icon and stick it next to the category title in your templates. You could create a large section background for your categories using this image. And so on... Why $category->pcimage and not just $category->image? If IPS ever adds something like this to Pages database categories themselves I predict with 99.999% certainty they would use the word "image". I added the "pc" in front to hedge against that potential future conflict. What happens if I disable this application? Everything will continue to work, you just won't be able to add an image to Pages database categories until you re-enable it. You are just disabling the category edit/create category image tab when you disable this; that's all. And if I uninstall this? All of your uploaded images will be deleted of course. Consider that you will be editing your Pages templates to add calls to these images too. You'll need to edit your templates to remove those calls after you uninstall this. Did this used to be a plugin? Yep. Now its an application with a proper file handler. I have the plugin now should I uninstall that or...? DO NOT UNINSTALL THE PLUGIN! You'll lose all of your files and have to re-upload them again. I've set up the install routine for the new application to handle it all for you. Install the app just like any other app and it will automatically take over the file handling from the piggybacked core_Attachments handler, remove the plugin uninstall routine that would normally delete your uploaded images, and then uninstalls the plugin for you. If for some reason you install the plugin again afterwards you're on your own... Seriously, delete any copies of the plugin you have lying around. Only bad can come from those being used after you've installed the app. What's New in Version 2.0 Moved to application from plugin. Own File Handler
  7. We often get asked how to create a portal-like home page for a community. A homepage has many benefits including: Showing your best content first By using the "Our Picks" blocks, you can display your best content first. This content sets the tone for the site and will encourage engagement across your site. Display multiple areas of the suite Each application has its own feed blocks that can be used to display content on the home page. If your members use Gallery heavily, then showcase those photos on the homepage. If you use Calendar a lot to schedule events, then show event feeds. By displaying feeds to content is a great way to showcase all areas of your site on a single page. Reduce confusion For those of us that grew up with forums are used to viewing a list of categories and forums. We find it easy to scan the list of forums and dip into the ones that interest us. For those that are not so familiar, a homepage displaying easily accessible content reduces the confusion and invites true content discovery. In this short video, we show you how to create a homepage in under 5 minutes using the Pages app. Pages is available with all Cloud plans and is available to purchase when buying a self-hosting license. This video shows: How to set Pages as the default application How to create a Page Builder page How to configure blocks to fine tune the feeds As you can see, it's a straightforward task, and you do not need to know any programming or design to create a compelling homepage. Do you have a homepage like this? We'd love to see it!

  10. Pages is one our most flexible applications. We use Pages on this site for our news blog, our release list and our bug tracker. We also use it internally to track customer suggestions, knowledge base articles and more. The most common use for Pages is as a simple articles database. With its built in templates, you can create interesting and engaging pages in just a few minutes. This is how we have it configured for this news blog. In this entry, we'll be looking at something a little out of the ordinary. In just five minutes, you can create a simple curated YouTube video gallery on your website using Pages. All of this functionality is built in. You won't need to learn code, or install any plug-ins. Check out the video below for a walk through which covers: Creating a database and page Using the 'Easy Mode' page editor to drag and drop the database into place Setting up the database's custom fields for YouTube You can take this further by tweaking the built in templates to create something unique for your site. You may wish to use a different listing page and show thumbnails of the videos to entice your visitors into the site. This is ideal for sites which use YouTube heavily but wish to keep the discussion on your site. The built in comments and review sections display just under the video. Pages opens up many different ways of curating and displaying content. We'd love to see how you're using Pages, let us know in the comments!
  11. SpaceX founder Elon Musk. Photo: Reuters Verified Facebook pages of Elon Musk?s rocket company SpaceX and electric carmaker Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) disappeared on Friday, minutes after the Silicon Valley billionaire promised on Twitter to take down the pages when challenged by users. "Delete SpaceX page on Facebook if you're the man?" a user tweeted to Tesla Chief Executive Musk. His response: "I didn't realize there was one. Will do." Facebook pages of SpaceX and Tesla, which had millions of followers, are no longer accessible. Musk had begun the exchange by responding to a tweet from WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton on the #deletefacebook tag. The hashtag gained prominence after the world?s largest social network upset users by mishandling data, which ended up in the hands of Cambridge Analytica - a political consultancy that worked on U.S. President Donald Trump?s 2016 election campaign. ?What?s Facebook?? Musk tweeted. Many users also urged the billionaire to delete the profiles of his companies on Facebook?s photo-sharing app Instagram. ?Instagram?s probably ok ... so long as it stays fairly independent,? Musk responded. ?I don?t use FB & never have, so don?t think I?m some kind of martyr or my companies are taking a huge blow. Also, we don?t advertise or pay for endorsements, so ... don?t care.? Musk has had run-ins with Facebook Inc (FB.O) founder Mark Zuckerberg in the past. Last year, a war of words broke out between Musk and Zuckerberg over whether robots will become smart enough to kill their human creators. When Zuckerberg was asked about Musk's views on the dangers of robots, he chided "naysayers" whose "doomsday scenarios" were "irresponsible." In response, Musk tweeted: ?His understanding of the subject is limited.?
  12. It all started during a tweetstorm, when Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX deleted both his companies' pages from Facebook. Well, why did it happen? Because he was challenged multiple times to do so. And what is Elon if not a baller? Both the Tesla and SpaceX pages have around 2.6 million followers and Elon just took a second to delete all of it. It happened when Musk was answering a series of tweets when he chimed in the development surrounding Brian Acton, co-founder of the Facebook-owned WhatsApp who was promoting the hashtag #deletefacebook. Lobbing a fiery zinger, Musk queried “What's Facebook?” What's Facebook? — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 23, 2018 This led to a fan asking him to delete his company pages if he was “the man”. And we all know what happened next. He soon deleted it! Delete SpaceX page on Facebook if you're the man? — 㤠(@serdarsprofile) March 23, 2018 But this started a tweetstorm. As another user showed him a screengrab of Tesla's Facebook page, he noted and wrote “Definitely. Looks lame anyway.” And now it seems like Musk has also gotten the Tesla-owned Solar City page removed as well. Clearly, he believes in doing a clean job. Definitely. Looks lame anyway. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 23, 2018 Facebook was already in a soup and now Musk has only piled on Mark Zuckerberg's misery. Just over the weekend, Cambridge Analytica, a consulting firm that worked on President Trump's election campaign, was accused of easily acquiring data of 50 million Facebook users. Of course, this has raised various concerns about privacy and even government officials are raising questions about the same. Looks like the #deletefacebook movement isn't going anywhere soon. But it would be interesting to see if Musk will also delete SpaceX and Tesla from Instagram, another social media platform owned by Facebook. We never know, he just might. But at present, he seems to be fine with Instagram. When one of the users asked him about it he wrote, “Instagram's probably ok, so long as it stays fairly independent. I don't use FB & never have, so don't think I'm some kind of martyr or my companies are taking a huge blow. Also, we don't advertise or pay for endorsements, so … don't care.” Musk doesn't approve of Facebook but his concern doesn't extend to Instagram at present where he has 6.9 million users. Instagram's probably ok imo, so long as it stays fairly independent. I don't use FB & never have, so don't think I'm some kind of martyr or my companies are taking a huge blow. Also, we don't advertise or pay for endorsements, so … don't care. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 23, 2018 Well, for now Musk has bid his farewell to Facebook and we are wondering if we should follow suit.

  14. Social media promotion should be a part of any marketing strategy. Curating interesting content from your community and sharing to social media channels like Facebook and Twitter is a great way to drive traffic to your site. Invision Community 4.2 introduced Social Media Promotions to allow this. You hit the promote button, fill out the text to share with each service, click which photos to include and schedule the promotion or send it immediately. We use this feature almost every single day to share highlights to our Invision Community Facebook page and Twitter. This feature has had a significant impact in attracting visitors to our blog. This is now a core part of our marketing strategy. So what's new in Invision Community 4.3? Facebook Groups and Pages A popular feature request was to allow sharing to Facebook groups that you are an administrator of, as well as Pages you own. Not only that, but we now allow you to share to many places at once. When setting up Facebook, you can choose which Facebook properties to be used when promoting. When sharing content, you can choose where to share it to right on the dialog. Here you can see that we're sharing to two of three possible places. "It's a secret" is a Facebook Group (which makes it a pretty poor secret). The "Lindy Throgmartin Fan Club" is my favourite page on all of Facebook. What it lacks in members, it makes up for in enthusiasm. You may also notice that the Facebook box is empty. Facebook have very strict guidelines on sharing content. They prefer that you do not auto-populate the content. You can always access the item's original content on the promote dialog, so you can refer to it. Setting a custom page title When you share to social media channels, you also have the opportunity to add to the 'Our Picks' page. We've made it possible to add a custom title for the Our Picks page so you don't have to use the content item title, although this is still the default. Editing an Our Pick When editing an item shared to 'Our Picks', you now have the option of editing all the data, including the title and the images attached. The Our Picks page showing the custom title Thanks to your feedback, we saw several places that we can improve this already popular feature. We hope you enjoy these changes which makes your social promotion strategy even easier to execute. I know we'll be making good use of them!
  15. Are you tired of friends? non-stop vacation photos popping up on your news feed? Annoyed with people constantly talking about an upcoming get-together? Well, have no fear as Facebook is here to help you. Facebook rolled out a new ?snooze? feature which allows users to unfollow friends, pages or groups for 24 hours, seven days or 30 days, according to Tech Crunch. The new feature can serve as a way to dial down the content you don?t want to see. Photo: Tech Crunch The new feature can serve as a way to dial down the content you don?t want to see, without having to fully unfollow or unfriend someone. Snooze joins a series of other content controls for News Feed, like Unfollow, Hide, Report and See First, which give people more ways to customise their experience on Facebook.
  16. People know Shashi Kapoor as one of the most incredibly handsome men of his time, son of Prithviraj Kapoor and youngest brother of Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor, and a versatile actor who was loved by people across all generations. His iconic dialogue “Mere paas maa hai” from the 1975 release 'Deewar' is fresh in our memories even today and despite watching the movie numerous times, it still leaves us teary-eyed every single time we see the two brothers, Ravi and Vijay, fighting with each other. So what made this one dialogue, originally meant to use as an argument against the wrongdoings of his criminal brother, attain cult status? Probably that's the charm of Shashi Kapoor and we don't think any other actor can even come close to recreating it. © Wikimedia With the demise of Shashi Kapoor, it is an end of an era for Bollywood, leaving a void that can never be filled. However, what many people don't know is that Shashi Kapoor was not only a great actor but also a passionate romantic, whose love story has been immortalized in the golden pages of Bollywood. The struggles he went through both on the personal and professional front and how he overcame all those obstacles with the help of his wife, Jennifer Kendal. Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal's love story was not an ordinary affair, neither was it easy for the two to get married. After facing resistance from Jennifer's family and particularly her father, Geoffrey Kendal, cupid finally weaved its magic around the two star-crossed lovers and the two got married in 1958. © Merchant Ivory Productions Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal loved each other deeply and fought all odds to finally get married. In fact, there are a lot of sweet instances they shared after their wedding. It is said that when the couple travelled to Calcutta for their honeymoon, the hotel room in which they stayed, is surprisingly till date addressed 'The Shashi Kapoor Room'. It was said to be love at first sight for the then 18-year-old Shashi Kapoor who met Jennifer for the first time in Calcutta in 1956. Jennifer was a part of her father's 'Shakespeareana' production and Shashi was a member of the Prithvi Theatre company. © Twitter Soon, Shashi Kapoor too joined 'Shakespeareana' for a brief time and the two worked together in many shows. In fact, it was their shared love for theatre that helped the two establish Prithvi Theatre in Bombay in 1978. © Trimurti Films Jennifer Kendal or Jennifer Kapoor is not a new or insignificant name in Bollywood. She has worked in some great movies like 'Bombay Talkie', 'Junoon' and '36 Chowringhee Lane'. The 1970 release 'Bombay Talkie' was one of the best films in which the two were together. This is the same movie that featured Amitabh Bachchan in a cameo. For those who don't know, the couple featured together in another movie called 'Shakespeare Wallah' which also starred Kendal's parents and her sister. According to India Today, in an autobiography on Shashi Kapoor by Aseem Chhabra, Sanjana Kapoor (their daughter) was quoted as, “When they were doing theatre (Shashi and Jennifer), they were poor. They were under-slept and underfed and my father would tell me how they would be tormented by hunger while strolling down the streets-both my parents trying to decide if they could get half a paratha. Then, they would walk past a restaurant and there would be my grandfather, Geoffrey Kendal, having a huge meal with a beer. My father couldn't walk in. He was his employee and he was also stealing his daughter. So there was no way he could march into the storm.” © Merchant Ivory Productions In 1982 Jennifer was diagnosed with colon cancer and succumbed to it in 1984. Jennifer's death was one of the major blows for Shashi Kapoor. In fact, the ones who are close to him feel that his health never recovered after she passed away. Jennifer's death broke Shashi Kapoor in ways that no one can understand. © Chaudhury Enterprises Amitabh Bachchan, who Shashi Kapoor fondly called 'Babbua' and shared a very close camaraderie with, said in his blog http://srbachchan.tumblr.com/, “He had been ailing…somewhere he had let himself go after the passing away of his dear wife Jennifer…I had visited him on occasion in Hospital during some of the times he had been hospitalised earlier...but I never went to see him again…I would never have…I never ever wanted to see this beautiful friend and 'samdhi' in the state I saw him in hospital.” © Twitter Shashi Kapoor loved Jennifer with all his heart and their love story will be remembered time and again in several years to come. Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal are survived by their children – Kunal Kapoor, Karan Kapoor and Sanjana Kapoor.
  17. Facebook on Monday took another measure to curb the spread of so-called fake news by announcing that it would ban business pages involved in sharing false stories from advertising on the social networking site. "Over the past year we have taken several steps to reduce false news and hoaxes on Facebook. Currently, we do not allow advertisers to run ads that link to stories that have been marked false by third-party fact-checking organizations," it said in a blog post on Monday. "Now we are taking an additional step. If Pages repeatedly share stories marked as false, these repeat offenders will no longer be allowed to advertise on Facebook." ?False news damages the trust of people who are on Facebook,? Yahoo Finance quoted Facebook product director Rob Leathern as saying. ?We don?t want pages that post [false] news to build out audiences and get more distribution on Facebook. So, we?ve decided to add this to the list of things to help that informed community.? Facebook to step up fact-checking in fight against fake news Facebook will start using updated machine learning to detect possible hoaxes The social network, however, did not specify the number of fake stories shared by a page to trigger the temporary advertising ban. Nor did it detailed as to how long the ban could last. ?We don?t want to share that,? added Leathern. ?We don?t want pages to game the system.? Earlier in August, the company said in a statement on its website it will start using updated machine learning to detect possible hoaxes and send them to fact checkers, potentially showing fact-checking results under the original article. Facebook has been criticised as being one of the main distribution points for so-called fake news, which many think influenced the 2016 US presidential election. The issue became a big political topic in Europe, with French voters deluged with false stories ahead of the presidential election in May and Germany backing a plan to fine social media networks if they fail to remove hateful postings promptly, ahead of elections there in September.
